    Default A few questions if I may...Vn V8 diff, dizzy,brakes..etc into VH

So, I've got a few questions. Yes, I do.

-I have a VH Commy V8. Now, We are putting the VC Brock flares on the car but we want to put a VN V8 diff in instead of the original item. I've been told that the VN diffs are wider by 30mm on each side and would need cutting down. Can we get away with bolting it straight up without any mods if flares are mounted?
The car will be sitting on V5 Simmons 16 inch wheels and 225 tyres.
-What tailshaft would we need to use in order for this conversion to work?
-What OEM brake setup can we use on the rear for this conversion?

-We are also going for a 304 block with VN heads and Torque Power manifold and Holley Carby. Do we need any other EFI related components for this to work or can we just use the existing accessories...dizzy,radiator,water pump..etc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Mate I have a VB with a VNV8 diff and flares. They do scrape a little if you have a few passengers and go over dips and holes. I have fitted pump up shocks to solve this problem. It is not the flares but they scrape the body.
I have the same size tyres. They brakes lines just reconnect. If it was a drum brake diff previously you will need to change your hand brake cable. Tailshaft you need the rear section from a VL front is what ever suits what gearbox you are running. I had a VN V8 one modded to suit.

I can't help you with the rest.

Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it.
So, we can't just modify a full VN tailshaft to suit. Can't we have a VN front and rear section of the tailshaft bolted up?
If not, what needs to be done. We also want to put a T700 gearbox and replace the trimatic. Any hints on that conversion?
    Thanks.

The rear half of the VN tailshaft will be about 100mm too long. Take it to a driveshaft place and they will cut it down and balance it. Or use the front section to fit the T700 box and the back section out of a VL. They unbolt at the CV joint.

Are you gonna cut the guards to fit the flares and big rubber, like on the Toranas? Wouldn't that not allow the body to rub?

I haven't done this on a Commodore, but I can't think how it would rub anywhere except the guard, which cutting for the flare would fix.

hangman the flares are not the same they are for show on a commodore unless you get the big banger group c kit.

That's correct. It's just the street kit as used on the HDT cars.
Another question. As we are putting the VN TH700 into the car, is there any way we can retain the original T-Bar shifter instead of the VN item?
It would look out of place if we kept the VN shifter in there so I would like to know If we can.
    Thanks.

    Ahh ok.

Chop the guards anyway and fill the flares with rubber.

I have seen the original shifter retained with the TH700 box but I do not know how it is done.
To fit the TH700 box I understand that the tunnel needs a bit of a thump with a big hammer to make room.

You also need to roll the rear guards.

Send Lowroozer a PM I have seen it in his car.

the shifter you just grind and extra gate into it, your indicator which tells you what gear your in wont be right but you will get all gears thats how i had it in my vh wagon.
