Hi all,
I don't know if a thread already exists regarding this topic and sorry if there is but I could not find one nor could I find anything that answered my questions.
What I want to know are drop tanks and fuel cells legal in street cars?
Also to what extent can you go with one, in terms of altering body, such as wheel wells etc before needing an engineers?
And a bit off topic, but can I put a VN 5L in my VK and run a carby instead of EFI without needing engineers?
If any one could shed any light on these questions it would be much appreciated.
Cheers Luke
Any questions regarding legalities of modifications I suggest you contact an Automotive engineer, call the RTA they will give you a list of close engineers, either Hornsby or newcastle now kevin humphries of lakeside engineering as retired.
Drop tanks are legal as long as they comply to emissions requirements of the original tank and have required ground clearance. I cant say for sure about fuel cells but I would say same as drop tanks, but call an engineer.
If I was modifying wheel arches such as tubbing etc talk to an engineer as he will tell you what he wants you to do and at what stage of the project he wants to see it, no point in painting etc if he wants to inspect quality of welds etc.
regarding the engine you would need to make sure it had all the original emissions gear connected up but your better off running EFI better reliability, performance etc, there are carbie throttle body setups to keep the old school look.
