    Default What Diff Ratio

My VK will be running a 355 stroker 400hp claimed T5 gearbox and a VL turbo diff.
I am dropping the diff off to get recoed. What ratio should I be running. It is a cruiser not for the strip. I would like to be sitting on no more then 2000rpm at 100kPh. Wheels are 225/50R16. I am thinking 3.08.

well my 3.55 sits on 3000rpm@107kmph, so not that ratio. you really need to pair it with your cam, bro. it'd be nice to say "i dont wanna use fuel, but also want 300HP" but that just isnt realistic. with a 500 lift cam your gonna need a revvy diff.

edit* also i have trimatic, so 1:1 final. the T5 is 1.5:1 in 5th isnt it?

T5 fifth is 0.73:1 therefor it would drop the revs down to 2190RPM. So a 3.45 ratio sounds good. I am thinking that is what it is now.

why not the VL turbo 3.45s I run them in my VK with 16s with great results I have full gear charts for this combo on my site, match it up to your cam specs and see how it goes, but mine is great down the freeway in 5th and great pickup.

The 3.23 in my VK feels pretty good all round, a little on the cruising side but makes it get up and go a little better then a 3.08 diff and with the high ratio overdrive in T5's its cruises well at 100kph, its about 2000rpm at 100kph give or take a 100 rpm.

I will start with the 3.45 and see how it performs. Can always change it later. I had a look at your site. Good info Well done!

Dropped the diff off for rebuild. It has 3.45 gears so I will stay with that ratio.

When you go playing round with diff gears are different speedo gears available to correct the speedo?

I understand that you can get different drive gears for the T5 still from FORD.
