    Default VK Door locks

    Hi all,

Whats the go with the door lock mechanism in VK's how some have the sliding lock and others have the normal style up near the glass?

My 84 vk is the conventional type near the glass and so is my 85, but another 84 i know of is a sliding style as are a couple of other VKs i know of, but im unsure of what year those ones are.

Is it a factory thing how some factories used the sliding type and others used the conventional one, or some sort of optional extra?

If u wanted central locking u got slide locks. And also it was on berlinas and calais as standard. Hope that helps.

I've noticed the same with VH's.
ok all the sl/e's i've seen had the slide but on odd occasion a non central locking vh i've come across had them too.
I changed mine in the SS to the slide (using sl/e trims atm) as i felt it might be harder for a theif to unlock the door... but then again, a brick would always be the quickest way around that anyhow...
I'm wondering if it was a run out of spare slide lock parts on the assy line at the time

I have seen a VH SL/E with up / down locks before so I'm guessing it was an option with c/lock. Curious with the VK though, perhaps it was an option also, irrespective of c/lock??

I was led believe that all vks after a certian date in 1985 had sliding door locks and vl style seat frames etc as vl production was being phased in. Could be wrong but.

From memory the early commodores all had cut outs in the door cards to fit slidinh locks in(may be wrong, its been about 15 yrs since I sold the VB).

Righto. from Feb 85, all VKs had them standard. Were factory on central locking, VB-VH, optional on all VKs, slide locks non central optional on all VKs as well.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!

SL/E with slide locks and no central lock - now that is interesting...

    Maybe the c/lock didn't work?

I put slide locks out of a VL into my VB because I wanted to fit SLE trims. The hardest bit is to get the slides out of the door cause they are so brittle. Wizzsnips work well.
