hey guys ive got a vn series 1 in my vh,ive replaaced the thermostat and housing,im running twin efs so cooling the rad shouldnt be a problem, but when the car gets to 95 on my temp gauge it starts leaking coolant out of the radiator cap,im using a vh v8 radiator with a 105 kpa cap, should the cap be sealed because it bleeds through the overflow?
i didnt know you could put to much coolant in???
if i got a higher cap could i risk blowing the v8 rad core? since the pressure bottle on the series one i think have a 135kpa and the normal for a vh v8 rad is 105 kpa
The Cap bleed off should run to an expansion tank, it sounds like your coolant is expanding then running onto the ground which is normal but you dont see it when there is a line going to a tank.
i see what you mean, you reckon i should have a look at the line that goes to the filler neck to see if its block, and maybe try a 120kpa cap, whats the ideal temp my vn will be runnin at,it hits 97 on my temp gauge and starts to over flow from the cap slowly,
How have you got it setup? the Are you using the complete VN setup with expansion tank but with a VH rad as well. take a pic. Where have you got your line from the radiator cap going?
yep using the tank and cap,i got that line going to the ther expansion tank tank ill take a photo now
anyoneee???
Well ideally you shouldnt get any hotter then 95 but these things tend to run a little hot, when you say its leaking out the rad cap, is it leaking out around the rad cap top seal? but the way its setup there your sytem is still under 135kpa of prerssure as the rad cap trys to release but can push the coolant anywhere as the expansion tank on these is pressurised as well, im not really familiar with s1 VN cooling setups, so im not sure weather you can run the rad cap line into a seperate expansion tankand block the other hole of or not. Shouldnt your thermo fans be kicking in earlier to stop it getting so hot in the first place?
ive got twin ef runnin full blast and its still goes over 95..its coming out of the filler neck at about 95
With the thermos running it shouldnt get hot at idle, the cap also shouldnt leak out the filler neck so check your cap as its probably cactus. Is the thermostat opening properly.
I havent worked on a vn for some time, but i think the hose going from the tank to the radiator is wrong. The overflow tank normally isnt under pressure, but the vn tank would be,causing pressure to be on the wrong side of the radiator cap seal.
Your always going to have problems with that set up as your overflow is pressurized and it shouldn't be so really you don't have a overflow and that's your problem so its just going to leak out of wherever it can.

thermostat is new same with the housing ill play around with the over flow, how can i get around this problem?
the cap is brand new too
could i run an overflow and this will solve my problem?
Im not sure how you would get around it i have tried it before in a vn but it didn't go to well probably better just to swap to the whole s1 vn setup insted of using the vh v8 radiator.

yeap cheers mate, can u get the wholes on a vn rad changed? i know i did with my vh one but on the vn there plastic
just did a run then i blanked off the radiator cap,its weird because i only ran to 95 no leaks from the cap but when i shut it off the radiator wasnt hot at all only the pressure bottle, shouldnt the radiator be just as hot as the engine?
it was a faulty thermostat
