im trying to find out what engine i have in my vh, the engine number has been machined off and all i can find is a number above the water pump L241 i have searched on here and cant find any ifo on the number
its ment to be a factory 253
It should have 253 on the passenger side of the block.
I would be more concerned as to why the engine number was machined off!!! From memory blocks sourced from holden bare didnt have numbers but would be stamped/issued at dealerships. I would be making sure it has the engine number thats on your rego papers stamped on it pronto.

I know it's a pretty common thing to happen if the block has been decked. Sometimes heat (oxy, etc) can bring up the number if it's been machined off.
I had a similar thing on a blue 308, I wasn't allowed to have my numbers re-stamped to make them legible after the block was decked so the RTA made me go to the pits at west gosford so they could verify it wasn't stolen and then issue me with a police number.
Quite frustrating to deal with the RTA on stuff like this esp since the block was the original to the car.
Both of our 308 blocks don't have numbers but both have letterers from victorian police forensics saying they were re stamped due to the block being decked
There's a few blocks around with police numbers.
Usually a letter representing the state, followed by a number, then P for police. ie: N#####P would indicate a NSW police engine number.
GM 5 star just stamp their own numbers into them when they get reco'd. from memory its UC***** they dont bother with police![]()
