Does anybody know of a good mechanic who knows his way around holden V8's in the Penrith NSW area? I have recently purchased an 85 VK with rebuilt original 5 ltr motor and i have had it to 4 different mechanics who have been working on modern computerized motors too much and dont seem to know what to do with a real engine!!
So wtf do you want done? An why can't you do it yourself...

I certainly know what you mean - it's not easy to find a willing and able mechanic these days to do work on old cars. Whilst I always endeavour to do as much work myself I look to a qualified mechanic to do the jobs that require more specialised tools, knowledge, hoists etc etc. I'm still searching...
I hope someone gives you a straight answer, good luck.
I know a couple on the NSW Central Coast if you feel like a drive
There is nothing to the V8s electronic dizzy basically all you will be doing if plugs, leads, rotor button & dizzy cap, fuel, oil & air filters and regular oil changes.

I use a mechanic in Windsor.

He builds motors for customers (hot rods, drag etc) and knows his holden motors. He is also good value
His name is Kevin 4577 4130
Your probably going to need someone old school or like another poster suggested do it yourself.I know what you mean that's why I like to try and do my own service/repairs.I know this does'nt help U but where I live the local motorcycle dealership wont touch a bike over a certain age.First thing I would do and get hold of a workshop manual and have a bit of a read, you never know you might be surprised. If you find it a bit daunting there is heaps of info on this website.Cheers and good Luck.
mate i dont trust taking me car to any mechanics any more. im a diesel mechanic an cbf fixing stuff on my car so i take it to a mechanic and every time i get it back they have not fixed anything just caused more problems. so i do all my work my self now. very hard to find a mechanic that has a good work ethic that will admit to there stuff ups
Thanks to everyone for your replies. Unfortunately i have a back injury which prevents me from doing too much on the car myself.
