If your fitting a 1" cyl you will need to change the vac booster. The reason for the bigger Master Cyl is due to bigger piston bores in the calipers your best bet is to use the VE twin spot calipers as the VZ ones have larger bores and will give you poorer pedal feel.

1" master is a good addition though.

Why is it necessary to change the booster, I see other people suggesting this but I fitted VT brakes, braided lines, 1" master cylinder and used my VC booster. My car was road tested for compliance and passed with flying colours. I have perfect pedal, no issues at all. I am curious as to the difference.

Every one we have done in the past the 1" master cyl lines up differently on the vac booster and wont physically fit.

There is two types of 15/16, drum rear and disc rear. A drum 15/16 cannot be used on a Disc rear end and vice versa. I am not sure if there is any visual differences between the two, differences are all internal.

MY 81 vh 6cyl rear drum brakes has a 15/16 mastercylinder and my 82 vh 253 rear disc brakes has a 15/16 mastercylinder. As said earlier. The differences must be internal.

Master cylinder are the same, its the booster, single vs double diaphragm. The disc brake boosters have the double diaphragm and is visual bigger in size.

Thanks for clearing up the issues concerning drum to disc mastercylinder v booster. Will look for one. I presume a Vn brakebooster would be ok since they use a 15/16 mastercylinder.

I want to replace my 15/16" master cylinder with a 1" one. What booster can I use with the 1" master cylinder? Does it need to be double diaphragm booster? Thanks

No it will fit either booster but to get the best out of your brakes you need to at least go for the bigger 290mm front discs and calipers...My vh has this with a disc rear and uses a vt style booster/master(because its cheaper to do than the 1 inch) and the brakes are very good with these 290mm discs and calipers on the front.

hey mate just letting u know ive just done this to my vh and fitted a vs booster and master cylinder, discs allround. i must admit that this change over is great and pulls up on a dime 110% better than the stock setup. im using 270mm (standard size) slotted rotors allround and fresh sets of pads. i couldnt be happier! but if u wana go the vt m/cylinder & booster and 290mm rotors and callipers to suit it will cost u more, ive never personaly tried out a vt brake system so i cant judge or compare the 2 types. but if your after a cheap improvement run the vs setup with the 270mm rtrs, direct bolt up with no fuss.....oh and u need brakeline adapters!...i sourced mine from pirtek for $5ea all in all it cost me $45 plus half a day of my time. I got a 1" mc and a spare one the other day for really cheap. I will just need to re-kit it, I like the ones with the rectanglular reservoir. I would go the vt brake upgrade but I want to keep the 15" rims. Would the best thing to do, go for the double diaphragm booster and vs calipers?

Nope, refer to my VB thread.
I have a vn-vp 1" master i tried... flare is different on the rear pipes couldn't get em to seal, port angle for left side caliper pipe is different.
You need a vb-vh 1" master. Funny enough so do i... been using the original vb 15/16's one all week so far........
