Default 78 VB 4,2 SL pics

    Hey guys

A few pics of my wifes car as promised for anyone interested.

It is a 12/78 build and was bought new by an elderly couple and the husband died soom after. The old lady kept it and used it as a shopping trolley untill my wife bought it in 92. Both its female owners have loved it and insisted upon the very best servicing available. It's now done 192000 trouble free km's. Its totaly original and is pretty much how it left the factory exept for the roo bar that my wife had fitted when she was parranoid about hitting one. That will be coming off tomorrow as the car is now on historic rego and lives in a shed next to my FC i've had since 79.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!

Very nice and original car, getting rid of that bar will lift it's appearance 100%.

There has never been any fans of the bull bar, it wasn't fitted for looks. Roos can get pretty bad where we are and she just waned to protect its crash free status.

It has the vinyl seats. Strangely it has the SLE headlight wiper motors and washers that work when the windscreen wipers are on but never had the arms fitted. Freind of mine has a HZ built 4 months after our car and he reckons they built both models together for a few months and there was a fair bit of confusion on the production line. Might explain why it had a 4 cyl radiator.

The historic rego is really sweet. I believe it depends what state you live in on how it works. In SA you need to be a member of a recognised historic vehicle club and you keep a log book. you can drive it a maximum of 36 (I think) times a year. It costs about $110 a year plus club membership.

I wanted to retire the commodore to club rego when it first hit 30 years old (another requirement). Had a lot of trouble getting the missus into another car. Brought home a new VE demo when they first came out and after driving it she thought it was crap compared to the VB. She thought the VB was Quieter, smoother, more comfortable and she could see out of it. To be honest, I agree.

Alloy roo bar, you'd be lucky if it weighed much more than the original bumper.
