Hey guys i just brought a VB wagon 202 red motor. and i forgot to ask if it will run unleaded as im not sure if i need to buy lead replacement, or just use premium 98 or something any help will be appreciated.
If ur worried, just add the additive. We never bothered with our old 202's tho.

No such thing as lead replacement fuel. Best to use an additive and premium, if you can afford it.

Ok thanks guys, i ment the additive when i said lead replacement. but cool thats what i thourght dont rely need it, ill just run her on 98.
you dont really need it ,but correct me if im wrong, without the additive your valves wont last as long..
My experience
Our VB with a 253 red engine ran sweet as on super grade fuel when it was available. When it became unavailable in our town and all we could get was 91 unleaded it pinged and farted and ran that poorly we stopped driving the car. eventualy premium 98 was available and it was OK on that (nowhere near as good as leaded super) We tuned the engine to suit it and set up an injection system to run an aditive to protect the valves. My understanding is that the lead provided a cousion for the valves to close on.
After using the aditive for a while, it became obvious it would be cheaper to overhaul the heads after 80 000 kays than to use the aditive. She drove it for the 80 000 kays and I removed the heads to check the valve recesion and there was none at all. I had a cylinder head specialist check them over and he wanted to buy them. I put them back on the car as is. Ther was no ridge in the cylinders either. Bear in mind its had a very easy life with female owners, allthough i like to blow the cobwebs out when I get my hands on it.
Dont waste your money on these aditives. The post mentioned above by scott is good.
I run 95 plus additive in my blue 202.Would probably run better on the OLD Super.
Yeah they will run ok on premium, but the additive with premium is ideal as softens the blow on the valves.
my valves are probly ###ed than hahaha
