hey guys. long time no see!
my brother has an efi vk and was stupid n decided to see how fast it would go.
around 170 then nothing lol. i picked him up and after a few checks its the cam gear. all but a few teeth have been stripped off.
iv pulled the timing cover off n undid the thrust plate screws. removed the distributer and oil pump.
went to remove the cam shaft and it came out a total of about 5mm!!!
has like a metal on metal clunk when moved back and forth. also has a simillar clunk when i rotate the cam shaft.
any ideas??
im stumped and my head hurts lol.
cheers
any info is much appreciated.

Pulled out the lifters by any chance?

Beaten by that much

I'm one that goes to the extreme. Pull out crank, replace the bearings etc. No point doing half measures

the lifters can still stick though, especially if the engine has some kays on it - carbon gets built up on the bottom of the lifters and they are difficult to pull up through the bore.
Just have to keep jiggling the lifter up and down until it comes out
Yeah thanks for the good laugh, made my day![]()

what the hell dude?
Replaced all my lifters a while ago. Buy a lifter removing tool from Super Cheap.I remove the circlip and disc from top of lifter so that the lifter tool can get a good grip. I found that they almost come out completely and by turning the lifter Quarter to Half turn and jiggling it that they came out.Good luck.
all good if they haven't mushroomed!! then the only way out is down.
EAsy to get cam out without removing lifters keep truning cam to get lifters to lift up then just pull them up a bit more most of the time they stay there but if they dont your pulling the rest of the motor down cause they end up in the sump.
HOWEVER if your replacing the cam your an idiot if your not using new lifters.

1. tie rope to end of cam shaft
2. tie other end of rope to nearest V8
3. warm up tyres on said V8 with a healthy skid
4. skull drag cam fair out of the 202 block
5. sit and have beer
If in doubt......FLOOR IT!!!
Screw you guys lol all the lifters were up n it still wouldn't come out. Turns out there was a circlip on the cam on the inside of the block holding it in. The other times iv removed cams well yea one was grimy as and the other I had the engine upside down.
It had new lifters put in by the previous owner so didn't replace them.
You guys are a bit immature ya know. Glad I'm getting rid of the vks. TT 300zx is way more reliable!catch yas
