Hello,
I'm new on this forum.
My name is Reinhoud, 37 y.o. living in Tasmania.
I have a question regarding my VK Commodore (3.3 litre black engine).
I reconditioned the engine of my car.
Last week I filled the engine with oil, let the engine turn around by the starter moter, but I still don't have oil pressure.
Today I took the oilpump of, and it is still completely dry from the inside.
Is there a trick to get oil into the pump?
Do I have to fill the pump first?
If yes, how?
Thanks in advance allready.
Please forgive me if my English isn't all that, I'm an immigrated Dutchman..
We used to pack the oil pump with mobil waxrex (aka vasaline), the last motor I did I actually screwed an airhose fitting into the oil pressure sender hole and pumped about 1l oil oil in there and it primed the oil galleries. you did install the oil pickup? and the sump plug?
I have seen mechanics put 10l into a car and wonder why its not showing on the dip stick untill they goo to move and nearly slip A over T

Yes, I mouted the oil puck up
Yes, sump plug is mounted, dipstick isn't dry
So I have to fill the pump with oil before it starts pumping...
I shall look for something to fill it.
Have u checked pick-up function before u put it back? I might be blocked inside. Try to remove the pick- up and use a air blower to test it. Good luck
Did you prime the pump?
Is the seal good between the block and the pickup?
I just screwed a airhose fitting in the oilpressure pick up thingy, connected a hose on it, unscrewed the oilfilter a few turns and poured oil in the hose til it leaked out of the pump.
Then I screwed the oil filter of and filled it completely with oil.
Now, when I have no oil pressure pick up mounted, and I let the engine turn around, there flows a little bit of oil out of the hole.
Little bit of progress.
Now I have to recharge the battery, will try tomorrow again.
I've got oil pressure!!
Thanks for your advice!
