This stunned me. - Springs

Bought some kingsprings for my car today, but i dont want to put them in. because the front end is a big fuss.. so i went to a shop to get a quote.

Now, if someone asked you if you could put in front springs for a VH.. how much would you charge them?
Think of your answer before reading on.









The prices i was given,

First shop i went to; $80
Second shop; $140
Third shop; $176

I would think
$80 Labour
$30 new bump stops (guess on price)
$30 new rubber covers (guess on price)
$80 New bearing plates (guess on price)
$30 Wheel alignment

Total $250

Assuming every thing else is perfect then $120 with a wheel alignment

You'd think $80 would cover it but maybe they're allowing a wheel alignment in case something was thrown off in the changeover with the more exp quotes.

its pretty easy to do urself IMO unless the bearing are so rooted they fall out out n go fkn everywhere lol

I would of thought around the $150 mark, so $80 is dirt cheap IMO - what were you expecting?

How long would it take assuming a straight swap an hour a side? Then a wheel alignment another hour?
Agree with above around $150 . (I think mechanics like to eat also)
So the front is lowered what about the back?

I know its a different car but I got 4 springs and camber kit installed on a VS for $270 (3 hrs labour)

I got told roughly 45 mins for front springs, the rest for the camber kit so Id assume 1 hour labour for 4 springs is reasonable

I was thinking 1 hour on the front, it would be easier doing new bump stops etc as the old ones should be cleaned before fitting.

a rattle gun on the springs compressors to compress, rattle off the top, only problem would be how hard it would be to remove the old shock inserts if the nut is rusted in.

Well I mate got his done for $50. I was expecting around that price. ( $80 isn't so bad )

Shops are saying it'd take roughly a hour.

And the rears lowered already. Because I could easily enough do the rear end myself.

I want to move to Lincoln - mechanics appear to be very cheap down there! (compared to the Sydney hacks in any case...) I don't know of any service a mechanic would perform on a car for $50 in Sydney...
