I'm as keen as you to find out if anyone knows what that is, lol
more pics ?
EST crank angle sensor its supposed to live on the back of the engine pointing at the flex plate or flywheel
If you have converted to HEI dizzy chuck it away
That was easy pick a hard part

Why would a black Carby 202 have a crank angle sensor?
For the Electronic Spark Timing, EST for short.

how exactly is it meant to go in... i couldnt work it out.
Now your testing me
The silver probe part goes into a hole in the top of the bell housing, I cant remember if it uses a belhousing bolt or not but I think it has its own bolt into the back of the engine block and thats the bracket part off it and the cable plugs into a wiring harness near by

Yep, has its own bolt and dowel above the bell housing into the block.
yep got it... put it in this afternoon. the silver prob went into the hole and the was another little thing sticking out that went into the back of the block to stop it moving. i then found a bolt for it and away we go!
thanks for the help guys. after putting this in and a couple other parts the car is running a lot better. i cant begin to tell you how happy i am now my car is running correctly. this forum is amazing as the people on it.
Thanks again
Brandon
yeah it was... why is it not meant to at all?
Its very possible you have a HEI Dizzy if you were running with the CAS disconnected
Heres some decent pics of a HEI Dizzy
Side view of Vacumn advance
Ignition module
To test the vac advance (dont read into this guys or you SUCK) suck on the tube if you suck air its busted, if you suck and get a vacumn it works. As the carbie VK didnt come with this dizzy you need to get vacumn supply via a ported source have a look at EFI diagrams for where to connect it up a simple T piece joiner will work. Basically you dont want advance when the car is cold, only once it has warmed up.
If you have a plastic gear on the bottom, they tend to go brittle with age and strip, changing them for a metal gear is advised, conveiniently a gear off an oil pump is exactly the right gear.
cheers

hmm well i think i have the HEI... have a look. and if i do why did the car run like crap untill i put the exhaust heat valve actuator, throttle nudger and CAS on?
what do the exhaust heat valve actuator and throttle nudger do anyway?
Thats a HEI dizzy, chuck the CAS its not required
