    Default Cracked/sagging floorpan

The floorpan under my drivers seat is cracked/sagging. Im thinking about fixing it soon.

Would it be expensive to get fixed and what would it involve??

Depends how bad it is and why its like it and what the rest of the car is like if its worth fixing

if its rust you probably have bigger problems which are causing it, but you can weld it up take it down to a panel beaters and get a quote/guestimate.

Yeh its getting worse I reckon. I need to get it fixed sooner rather then later. Thats what Im sorta trying to work out, if its worth getting fixed.

I dont think its rust. Theres been a couple of people Ive spoken to that have had the same problem with their VB/VC in the past, which led me to believe that it was a fairly common problem.

Yeah it is common, pretty sure alot were recalled to rectify the problem. One of my old ones which done it was easily fixed by running the mig along the crack.

Break out the welder and go nuts. Standard VB issue.

I would have a look at later models and see what they did differently to try to stop it happening in the future or try to add some additional bracing

Make sure you drill a small hole at the end of the crack to stop it from continuing before you weld it up, just adds a little extra insurence to stop it spreading.

My mate had same problem in his VH. Wen he took it over the pits the inspector said it's a fault from the factory. U can take it to any Holden dealer and they have to fix it by law. Even if it's 30+ years old. He done that and afta a bit of farkn around they did fix it without charge as long as it wasnt because of rust.

Noo sh!t. I was told the same thing about the cracked floorpan being a factory fault and Holden having an obligation to fix it free of charge by someone else. I went in to my local Holden dealership and they pretty much told me I was dreaming and to GTFO. Ill go into a different dealership and ask the question again.

Do you know how hard it was for your mate to make Holden come to the party and fix the floorpan free of charge?? Also is there any offical info about it on the net anywhere??

They used to do this, however a 30+ year old car, they won't come to party anymore. 20 years ago, maybe.

    Which law would that be?

Thats closer to the mark. Unfortunately issues like that are part and parcel with buying old cars. No real difference to various cars being prone to rust in various areas. In most cases they are a design or materials deficiency from original manufacture but unless the car was subject to a recall over the issue I don't think you will have much luck. I'm not sure if recalls have a time limit on them or not.

I remember the GMH fix for it, 20 years ago when I worked for a Holden Dealer. My previous VH had the same problem. I just welded and plated it myself
But yeah, these days I don't like your chances of getting it done free of charge - the chances of GMH being obligated to fix a fault free of charge on a 30+ year old car is unlikely

My mate had contact at a dealership which would of helpd but I had a transport inspector not from the licencing centre, a actual inspector who investigates all vehicals for correct id tags on vehicals and stolen cars, check my car as it was under investigation(long story) and he said u can still get it done. That was about 8 months ago.
