    Default Snapped bolt in head.

Hi there. i got a blue 202 with a 161 head on it. I was trying to take the square headed bolt out whr the temp switch goes in near the back of the head on carby side to put a temp switch in which i didnt have. That is the only place on a 161 head u can put a temp switch. I snapped the bolt. I drilled a small hole to use a easy out but now iv snapped that too. Any ideas on wot else i can do. It now leaks water from there.

Maybe drill it out again, start small and work ur way up, then when it's big enuf, retap it. That would work I rekon. Or weld sumfin on the top of the bolt which u can use to undo it, maybe a socket. Then while it's still glowing red, try and undo it then.

if you heat it up red hot then mig it up it will seal, if you want to try again use a carbide burr on a die grinder to drill out the tap or easy out.

If you want to put the sensor in your best be will be to call a thread repair guy to put a brass insert in it.

Drilling with a normal drill bit yes, doing up my backhoe I have had to weld up drill and retap heaps of threads, so far snapped 6 taps and 2 easy outs (not so easy).

If the end of the broken drill/tap/easy out is at the end of the hole you can sit a washer over it and mig the centre of the washer tot he bit, then weld a nut to the washer and then remove the stuck bit.
Else a rounded toped carbide burr will eat an easy out, tap etc for breakfast
Else you can try cracking it with a centre punch, cold chisel etc and chip it out.

Else you can heat the bit up and it will drill out easier also.

    cheers

FYI, your backhoe will be made from Bisalloy. You need to use atleast Cobalt taps or solid carbide.

I dont think it is it drills with normal HS drill bits it was built in 1979 based on a 70s tractor, main reson for breaking stuff is being over ambitious or rushing, not measuing stuff correctly
