Hi i'm just having a problem here with getting my fuel injected vk to start and keep running without cutting out.
I'm not at all familiar with 202's as i've only ever owned vl's and i only just bought this car because it was cheap and i need a car to drive for when my vl comes off the road for a rebuild.
Ok so now after getting the car towed home i filled up the tank to halfway with regular unleaded (havent put in a lead additive as of yet) so i would have fuel to get it running.
I then hooked up the battery out of my vl and cranked the engine and it cranks over fine and sounds like it wants to start but it just wont and if you try a few times it will actually start and run for 2 - 5 seconds and then cut out and stop.
I then disconnected the airflow meter and and started the car and it fired straight up but ran really rough and idle like that for at least 2 - 5 minutes before the idle dropped and it cut out again. it would still rev up without the afm connected.
So then i started it up again with the afm still disconnected and it ran again so i connected the afm and it run like normal but stalled again not long after so i tried another time and it started up perfect and idled fairly smooth. I then took it for a drive around the block and then back into the driveway where i let it idle.
turned the car off and tried to start it to make sure it was fine and it didnt so back to square one :S..
All i've done since is clean all the electrical connections and the afm with contact cleaner and checked the fuses and fluids beacause i dont really know where to start to find the problem.
Anyone know what could be the problem??
Have you replaced the fuel filter? Is the fuel pump working properly?
Try in your dizzy..There is a little box on it and that holds a dizzy mod or somthing like that.My vk calais had the same problems when it was hot. There like $50 at repco and make sure you put the white lube under the new one before putting in!!!!!
I've heard these can go and youre meant to lube a part of it to prevent it stuufing up again.
I have checked the fuel pump but havent changed anything yet as i dont know if i want to keep the car or not. i just found the vin tag is missing so im going into QLD transport tomorrow to get it sussed out.
As for the running issue i got it running today and it now starts and runs every time without stalling. the problem i think was reverse polarity wires that connect into the positive battery cable. i just switched them around and it started up perfect. only problem now is the engine seems to idle a bit high at around 1800 - 2000 rpm. any ideas?
