the carpet is the only part of the interior that lets this car down

Knox auto carpets may help. The proper SL/E carpet is NLA. But they have something close to it.

Company by the name of No Bull Accessories (formerly Queensland Moulded Car Carpets) do a front and rear carpet for a VC. They have an online store or can get through autObarn stores, but as you're in WA I would imagine autopro would deal with them also.
