hey guys, i was wondering if any body here in victoria knows of any VICROADS approved clubs that will accept commodore owners for club rego apart from brock owners and hsv. i am finding it very difficult to find one. i dont drive my old girl very often so why would i pay full rego and i love the idea of going on some club cruises to like phillip island and so on.
cheers jc
tried that with little result thats why im asking out aloud to possible members on here. thanx for the suggestion though.
well that list is all the club rego approved groups in vic.
might pay to tell us where abouts in victoria you are, will make it easier for people to suggest places. no point suggesting a place in mildura when you're in lakes entrance for example.
fair call, eastern suburbs. tried lions pride and they were thinking of allowing commodores under their constitution but have not heard back. its almost like commodores are not recognised as a australian collectable cars suitable for clubs. must be the bogan image that goes with them.

I looked into similar things here in NSW and found most reconised clubs with appropriate rego don't acknowlege commodores yet as their clubs mostly have voted to only allow vehicles 40yrs of age and older.
My VB is 33 and my vh is 29.
i have been thinking the same thing but its not easy.
I'm sure it couldn't be that hard as long as it was made state by state in au
In Qld You join a car club (any), car must be at least 30 years old.Club rego sounds easier up here. You need a letter from the car club and then hey presto.
similar to here but no one accepts commos except for the toffs at hsv and brock. some clubs require you to be a finacial member for 12 months b4 allowing club permit considereation. just joking bout the toffs
Join a commodore car club. Must be one there,
non that are vicroads approved for club permit rego
I speak from experience as my dad was president of the local club here for many years. The trick is to find a non build specific club.
As above many clubs now are pushing for either minimum attendance or set time as a member before club plate applications will be accepted. Also most clubs require a full vicroads roadworthy as opposed to previously only club safety checks.
Most clubs are now debating whether to only accept members who are into the club events etc or just accept the money from people who want cheap reg. I know of a couple of clubs around here that would accept commodores eg my old mans VH vacationer is on club reg. But you won't find one that will accept you overnight.
Also give here a try - Holden Heaven: Holden Car Clubs of Victoria
its not quite as simple as that
http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/c3...heme_guide.pdfClub membership: Evidence of current membership with an incorporated car club or association must be provided at the time of application for the concession
Someone said find a car club that does not discriminate on make. That'd be the way to go. I am surprised that you have not been made more welcome. I am so not your typical classic car guy (sub-30, poor, leftie type) but my club at least accepts my membership with enthusiasm. All the older guys with FCs and EHs will soon die out and it will be up to us to carry the torch.....NSW is heaps easy to get club rego.
thanx cor3yz, would love to hear which clubs they are. i know of 2 new potential members with 3 sles between them and are 40 years of age and over
who would love to join and be apart of some weekend cruises. and being that we dont drive our cars often and six cars between us any little bit of help goes along way when it comes to rego
MG car club of Qld look after me with my Commodore VC. They do runs but usually they are attended by MG's. But if you want to have a go at hillclimbs and track day's etc they are a good club. No problems getting a letter for club rego. They have a branch in Vic.
thanx for the suggestion NP. i actually thought that clubs wouldnt take members that didnt have a make specific to their brand.
MG couldn't survive if they only allowed MG's in the club. The social club runs are mainly attended by MG's but the competition side at least in Qld is dominated by other makes. MG would be one of the biggest and wealthiest clubs I would think so they can organise and run many events.
The Werribee Car Club is what im a part of.. and will accept any car. They do require that you serve a time as a member before you are eligible for club plates. Im unsure whether its three months or they have upped it to 12.
I also know that there is a club in Melton, (naturally the name eludes me, but its NOT the Western Vehicle Restorers Club), who will take your $$$ and give you a VicRoads form no probs.
Hope this helps
Im in the ballarat early holden club.
They accept any car on their runs but to get club rego the car needs to be 25 years old. So i think the cut off point at the moment is VL and newer. Otherwise early girls no probs. You also need to have been a member for 6 months and attended i think 4 or 5 meetings or something.
