i have a vc commodore 202 with trimatic. after the car warms up it starts dropping back to 2nd from 3rd when i take my foot off the accelerator. i just had the the trans serviced but it still does it. does anyone know what it might be. any help would be much appreciated.
Check the vacuum modulator and make sure the line isn't blocked or split. Could also be a split diaphragm in it.
Had exactly same issue with mine - well not quite but very similar - the kickdown solenoid could be warped. As fluid warms up, it thins out slips in past the gap where the solenoid is and causes the solenoid to kick in and out erratically. Cost 180 for a transmission specialist to fix because the replacements they have now don't fit right in; as such needs some machining.
thanks for the replies guys. i should mention the mechanic that did the service said he found a small piece sitting in the pan. it looks like i need to go to a specialist. does anyone know of a good one near ashfield(sydney). cheers.
Second vote here for warped kickdown solnoid.
vaccum modulator had (by your description) exact same problem in my lh.
