    Default Vk Dash/Crash Pad repairs

    Hello All,

I have been quoted $295 at the dashboard doctor to have my dash reskinned.

Just wondering if anyone knows of a cheaper way to repair the cracks?

I am already spraying most of the dash parts so if there is a bogging option that would be fine.

How nice a job do you want?
I had one done by the company they bought the gear from, its been perfect, they refoam the steel at the base of the crash pad then shape it (vacume moulded) then the vynl is glued and wraped over and moulded to suit. You are effectivly buying a new crashpad.

You could inject sikaflex into the cracks clean up and paint however they will be noticable if someone is having a good look, you could try a trim doctor in your local area they do vynl welding and can get them pretty close.

Im about to have one reskinned personally I thought the price was reasonable.

    cheers
    Scott

you could try to repair it, but chances are if it's cracked in one spot it means the vinyl is stuffed and will eventually crack somewhere else.
If you are going to the trouble of respraying it, then pay the $295 and get it done properly. One thing I've learnt stuffing around with cars over the years is 'do it right the first time', because nothing shits you more than having to pull it all back out again 6 months later all because you wanted to save a few $$

The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards paying for a reskin

$295 seems to be their standard price. they quoted the same price to have the centre console recoed. sounds fair and reasonable to me.

Not only is it the Vinyl breaking down but the foam underneath also has broken down.
