Fueling problems....
I have a 253 in an hj, she runs well, not a problem until I climb a hill above 80km, it idles then goes and idles then goes, like it's starving of fuel, it only does it up hill and when I throw it into corners, it doesn't go with revs, could it be the pump starting to let go and just not having enough grunt to pull fuel uphill, or could it be the sender not sucking, or something completely different? Any help before it dies or I have to spend dollars is appreciated, Also Does it wether tank is empty or full up the neck, no room for being above fuel level, it's not he pump, I've just changed it
sounds like lack of fuel pressure and flow , check your lines and vent hoses , have you checked the float height ?
Your talking about the float height in the bowl? No I haven't, I'm blowing put the fuel line tomorrow, cleaning plugs, and changing coil and resetting timing, other than that the only thing I cam think of is the sender has packed up
yes the float in the bowl is the one i was referring to , check your fuel filter for blockages and restricted flow given the age of the car the inside of the petrol tank maybe rusting and the deposits of rust building up in the filter and choking the fuel filter , pump may produce pressure also check the volume of discharge from the pump aswell
Will do tonight and let you know go I go.
im betting on the fuel bowl too. needle and seat may be stuck or clagged only letting a bit through. then when you corner all the fuel rushes to the back of the bowl and leans out.
what carby is it?
It's a 350 Holley, only rebuilt maybe 30,000 ago, I retuned it a while back and ran awesome, it runs the same now just starving
hmmm twin barrel? does it have an adjustable float, same as the double pumpers or is it sealed? you know what the part number is? or do you have a pic?
Twin barrel, with float sight bung on the side of the bowl and the adjusting nut and screw in the middle top of bowl, two weeks ago I readjusted it all, fuel level so it just seeps out of the sight bung, adjusted both idle screws about the same so that when you tap the acc lever it does next to nothing, and it ran beautiful, more power, better economy but it did start before that, just not often enough to worry about, (once a week) I've done a fair bit of research on the Holley, I had it rebuilt and used it on a 202 for a few months, got it rejetted to suit the 253 and been in use for 12 months, this is the 1st prob I've had.
how old is the needle and seat in it? does it have a plastic float? or soldered tin? those soldered tin floats are prone to leaking and sinking
I'm not sure what float us in it, i got it rebuilt by a carby shop, I've blown down the fuel line, changed filter, changed coil, checked fuel bowl level and checked for kinks and bends, I'm about to take it for a run I'll see how it goes
I do Believe it's fixed, took it for a run up hill to 140 and didn't do anything, I'll take it for a decent run tomorrow night to make sure, the filter was pretty grotty,
