Strut tops letting go

Has anyone here had their strut tops let go?

I have a set of rubber Kelpro adjustable strut tops in one of my cars they have done about 5,000km on normal tar roads, havent hit anything car has been in storage for about 3yrs and checked it on the weekend to find the runnber has letgo and nearly come completely out. These were flat when the car went into storage and hasnt moved it 3yrs.

not completely let go, but my VK ones were bent way out of shape. they didnt have much longer before they would tear.

Rubber deteriorates over time, especially if it isn't agitated (moved around a lot). The oils in the rubber will dry out and the rubber will perish and lose it's elasticity.

...what sort of brand is Kelpro?
never heard of them.. how do they compare to Nolathane or KMac or ?

I am going to replace them with K-mac ones as soon as I can access the car to work on it, Kelpro are a trade type brand I can remember if it was Bursons or Repco.
I would say they are only 4-5 years old tops and it looks like the rubber has just torn I will post a pic later

Cant say i ever seen a commodore ones let go from rubber failure, a bloke at work bought a VS ute and the previous owner just had new shocks fitted at pedders and the bottom washer got left off one side and the shock eventually punched through and hit the bonnet. Only thing ive ever seen in that area.

The rubber on the strut top perishes and splits, this makes the strut top bulge up. See it all the time on just about every pre VN Commodore.
