As my father passed away recently what to do with his vc that he drove for the last 26 years, its pretty ruff nothings original.
It s a 6 cylinder 4 speed , Is there any point trying to sell it or should I send it to the wreckers.
Has anyone been trying to buy a vc recently? Is there a lot to choose from? Whats the general condition of them?
Whatever you do, DO NOT WRECK IT.
Where are you located?
Current project; VH SL/X known as "NFNSUS"Ready for a overhaul due to licence issues
Put up pics... If its a ruf 6 it most likely won't fetch much but if your patient you could part it out in here for a few bucks I'd wager![]()
Wanted to buy VC sunroof
Pm me
also keen to trade electrical work for parts or other car related bits/skills
It was jammed 7 or 8 years ago the mechanicals aren't worth putting in anything else If one was going to build up a v8 vc whats the general condition of the bodys they start with? The pic shows 1 of the many pieces we put in it 7 years ago. 10 years ago I seen better body's sitting at jolley roger I'm trying to gauge the condition of the bodys blokes are starting with. As it has sentimental value to me Id like to see it rebuilt but honestly I cant see that happening.

vc seem to be going up in price maybe due to the when they hit the 30yr old mark makes them able to be regoed as museum rego or something<cant remember the name. Also i can see in a few more yrs they may go up in value like the torana did.food for thought
Pity you weren't in WA, I'd buy it.

I have a vc starfire with sunroof but I'm having alternator problems any ideas I've put a reconditioned alternator on and is putting out charge but not charging the battery any idea's
Apart from the thread hijack: on the positive terminal at the battery, the smaller cable has a fuseable link in it... cut it out and replace with a 45amp fuse. Your battery will then charge.
OP: Please dont turf the ol gal. They're all worth saving, even if it's to be a doner for a better plated model (sl/e etc...)
Parts at times are near impossible to find. I've been looking for a VH RHR door in white with no rust or dings for over a year now.... dont want vc or vb... vk and vl dont fit.... and i check the wreckers and ebay on a regular basis..
If you feel this shell isn't worth saving, at least hang onto the car as a donor for another VC and use this one to donate to the better one.
With much older cars i've seen far worse shells resurrected from the grave and given a new lease on life. It's all up to you, does the car hold a sentimental value seeing as it was your dad's daily for so many years? Do you have a soft spot for VC's?
It's all up to you. If you were close to where i live, i'd offer to buy it as a future project.
This only happens with classics. VC and Torana do not belong in the same paragraph.
If the car has sentimental value to you, and you want to fix it up, always in favour of resurrecting the oldies myself. Its not worth more than the sum of its parts though, and never will be.
I think if it were mine, given that you have said nothing in it is much good, I'd be too lazy to part it and just call the scrap yard.
i am learning to drive in it. its pretty immaculate very little rust in the boot and has a Peter Brock spoiler picked it up for 200 dollars of a mate
i also had a VH but i wrecked that for 150 bucks after i tried to convert the front end to a vk i didnt get to far with because i lost the rego papers for it i was spewing would of had to put it through regency to get it back on the road would of cost more than wat i paid for it
Due to privacy laws you can't go to the motor registry; in the UK OTOH details of how many classics that are on the road or on restricted rego due to restoration or storage, even down to model and trim, are publicly available. I would say I have the nicest original early commodore in Orange. A guy at canowindra is collecting them.
In answer to your question... Orange has about 30-35,000 cars; maybe 2 of these are VCs but their condition is not great. It is only just now that early commodores are starting to be restored, and values are on the rise (VB-VC SLs are now $6k, up from $3.5k 3 yrs ago, according to unique cars value guide). Restoration is currently uneconomical (mine cost $20k but much of it was professionally done).
Sorry to hear about your old man mate, condolences.
VC's are starting to get vaguely collectable, most are rusting in driveways and wrecking yards. If it's decentish nick, and you have sentimental feelings toward it, keep it and do it up.
Do you have somewhere it can sit, so you can build it more slowly?
