Just a idea i got but not sure what do you think?
At the moment i have a stock standard black 202 which is of needing a rebuild very soon.![]()
Now i can get a very nice clean blue 202 . Do you reckon it would be better swapping motors over or just rebuliding my old one. The blue 202 is coming out of a damaged VH which has been fully rebuild about 5 months ago and think it only did like 20000kms.
The reason i want to go with the blue 202 is not because its a good running motor but also it doesnt have so much bolted on usless stuff (air pump that doesnt work ect) Now i can remove all these from my motor ect i am still left with a well worn out motor.
If i do go ahead and swap motors over will that be a problem for rego because its a older motor or it wont matter? What i mean is because the black 202 has alot of emission control stuff and the blue 202 doesnt have much.
Blue 202 block is illegal in a VK in Victoria at least. I know some states have looser regulations though.
Black would be better IMO because you could just get the black head with EFI and whack it on, few other mods and you've got fuel injection.. plus the black 202 has electronic stuff connected to the gearbox so you would also need to use the VHs gearbox or do some fiddling with stuff to make it ok
Thanks for the comment Juzza. I live in NSW so i am not sure of the regulations. I didnt know that Blue 202s in a VK are illegal in your state hmm interesting.
The things what i am doing to my motor at the moment is removing air pump which dont work seased up. EST Dizzy ect, and putting a holley on for a better gain of power. But because the motor is on its way out i wanted to exchange for a blue motor but if it cant be done then i am looking at eather a second hand motor or rebuilding mine.
If you were to just run straight gas all the emmison laws go out the window and you can run any motor you want. At least in Victoria
I bought a recently-run-out-of-reg VK EFI with a red block (not just because it was painted red like most ppl think - it was a red 186!) - and the rego sticker reflects this - so there must be a way to run older blocks in newer cars - this was in Victoria, too.

It *was* dual fuel at one stage - but when I got it the LPG gear had all been removed.
Ok you can put an older engine block into a newer car however it much comply with the emission laws for the car, so if you do install a blue block you will need to install a carbie VK head witht he polution gear intact.
If you bought an EFI VK ever thought about doing an EFI conversion on your car?
If it was me I owuld be rebulding the engine thats already in your car, chuck in the spare 202 for a few weeks for a month and rebuild yours once done chuck yours back in.
cheers

Yeah is the black motor you have EFI? because from what I can see that motor works pretty well. I have a VH SLE with a blue 202 here in my shed. I want drive it around because if you don't count the engine, it's a great car I can't see myself doing that untill it has much more power because it feels and is painfuly slow after having a VN for few years.
Option 1 for the VH, either buy a complete VN-VP V6 and swap the entire front end and gearbox over and run a turbo on it = good car : )
Option 2, Buy a complete VL series II same deal as above
Option 3, IF I could find one for a good deal a VN-VP V8, same deal as above minus the turbo
Option 4, buy complete VC-VH-VK-VL 308/304 on gas and swap the whole thing into the VH
I also thought about the black EFI 202 but the price per kw favours the other transplants
lol in my personal opinin, no one would put a blue motor over a black motor, the blue motor's in my town are refered to as headache's...lol
