Default Several quick VK questions - help appreciated

    Hi guys,

    mum bought a 202 VK Vacationer in pretty immaculate condition for $2000 but like all old cars it has its niggles. So far we've replaced several hoses and the brakes needed adjusting and we go that done, however;

1 - How hot do the 3.3Ls get? We got it checked at a radiator place and it seemed to be operating at normal temperatures, however even after only 1/2 hours of driving it gets pretty damn hot in the engine bay eg. placing my hand on the area on the bonnet over the thermostat feels almost hot enough to scald if left there. (Note: there is no evidence of overheating i.e. no paint has peeled, bonnut strut welds are stick attached to the bonnet)

2 - The Accelerator pedal is 'loose' i.e. there is about 1.5cm of play pushing the pedal down before resistance is encountered in the cable and the car revs. Perhaps new a accelerator cable is needed?

3 - The speedo cluster probably needs replacing - the odomoter/tripmeter work when they feel like it (its done 95,000kms - probably double that however) and the speedo above about 80km/h seems to lag exponentially behind the car's actual speed - at 85km/h it feels more like 100km/h. Just asking - how much is it to replace the cluster?

4 - Just recently, when changing gears between P to D etc (its the trimatic auto), the selector squeaks whilst being moved. Obviously this isn't normal however I have no idea what it may be... selector arm or something just needs oiling perhaps?

5 - How smoothly do the trimatics change gears? Coming from my VN, it seems fairly clunky changing between P to D etc with the occasional transmission clang. Is this normal?

6 - (Phew, nearly done) - It seems all the face vents in the car are clogged or something - the air from the fan/air con almost only comes out via the foot ducts. Is a pipe or something perhaps disconnected?

If anyone could answer any of these questions that would be great.

    Thanks alot.

    2) check cable adjustment at carb/throttlebody end.
    3) stuff all if you find someone wreckin a vk on the net ( i know of 2 in melbs east)
    5) check fluid level, most trans problems are fluid level related.
    6) have a look at all the the ducting when you change the cluster.

    3) My Vk Had The Same Problem. There Is A Couple Of Different Things That Go Wrong. The Plastic Cog Which Connects To The Tranny Buggers Up. The Cable Might B Stuffed Or The Spedo My Need Changing. U Can Normal Find A 2ndhand But I Sent Mine Away To Get Rewound (about $120) Its A Bugger To Fix

    1) Mine is the same, but temperature gauge is never too high, so it probably IS normal like the pro says. (I hope so...)

well my vh 202 is the same. i can have it started 4 10 mins and when i turn it off the motor is still hot bout 1/2 hour after. my right hand side vent dont work because the fat ass hose is off (like it when i got it). havnt bothered to fix it because it looks to difficuilt. my tranny is a bit rough at changing too. my odometre works but my trip metre dont and the speedo dont work much either, its says 40kph when where doin bout 60kph.

Damn our cars have alot in common.

yeh that's normal going from park to drive and also it's usually a good idea to get a trans service kit (filter and gaskets) and install it if it hasn't been done for a while and then fill it up with transmission fluid. that's what i did with mine.

now all i need to do is replace the O ring so it stops leaking
