Ever heard of a fuel injected red motor......cause I got one.
I have a VK Commodore with a fuel injected motor. Although the motor is reconditioned, its a really neat factory set up. Oh and I may be selling it.
PS. Will get some pics.
yep...i have one 2 is your car an sl cos not many sl's came out with the efi 202
pic of my motor

i thought the calais only came out with efi???
EFI was an option on the whole VK range but only in auto.
When the original black motor shit itself people just replaced them with a red motor with the 12 port head an refitted the EFI. Very common.
109kw standard and as quick as a stock VL manual as reported in Wheels - 9.3 to 100Km/h.

Hi Guys,
Sorry to give you this newsbut all you have is an injected 202 black motor
![]()
The VK injected engines are sometimes refered to by people as red motors due to the red rocker cover & red fuel injection manifold. These engines were available across the whole VK range as autos only for 2 reasons, they blew the Mc6 & M76 transmisions (as the injected 202 had more torque than they could handle)to pieces and and they were having peoblems with them pinking under load.
The engine blocks had some slight machining differences for NSW with a hole drilled in the block at the drivers side rear to allow for a thermal vacuum switch to be installed. The also had an engine number starting with VK.

I don't think anyone would call a motor a red motor just because the rocker cover is red, but who knows? What is the most common option when a black motor dies, install a blue or a red. The engine number is a good place to check as you said. I don't know exactly why but the black motors were most disliked and people tended to remove them rather than fix them.

It actually takes quite alot of work & expense to fit a red motor up appart from both being a 3.3L inline six they are very different engines, watergalleries are completely different the head originally is a 9 port where a blue & black uses a 12 port to fit the EFI requires the 12 port head, crankshaft is very different, the list goes on.
But as you said who knows

Don't get me wrong I am definately not trying to argue.
It is a pretty easy job, the crank and head get thrown out with the block so don't come into in to it. Yes 12 Port on the blue, standard, and yellow terra on the red.

Does anyone know what the performance would be like of a EFI head onto a red motor, taking into consideration polution laws (and let's assume it would be thrown into something like a Torana which is pre 1975, and had no polution laws?
All hypothetical mind you, I'm not insane I promise![]()
keep in mind that if you put a newer motor in an older car you must have the newer motors pollution gear installed, plus the you should always upgrade the brakes and suspention to handle the power increase.
The car would only need to comply with polution laws for the year yt was built as the engine stays the same, its like putting VN-VS EFI 5L heads onto an early block and running it with a carb.
cheers
