Default VK BW78 diff - drum to discs

    Hey guys,

Thinking of attempting a drum-to-disc conversion on the VK this weekend - diff's rooted after the punks that stole it decided to shred my brand new tyre down to nothing

I've got the donor car with rear discs, apart from the yoke difference (it's an EFI, so got the larger one on it) and the handbrake cable, are there any other differences? I've heard someone mention something about a bracket for the handbrake or something - is this true, or is it all just bolt-on?

    Cheers,
    Chris.

78 series Borgwarner are a good diff, ok you will need to do axel seals & rear wheel bearings at the same time, only need to do the handbrake cable,

I suggest you get your discs machines including the handbrake part, get new handbrake shoes your would prebably be rooted, I would also get from holden new actuating levers, adjusting screws etc you dont know what will be bent and damaged till you pull it appart.

As for your tailshaft the borg warner flange one connect to a salisbury shaft unis are different sizes.
2 options you might be able to get an 85model Trimatic tailshaft, the gearbox splines _should_ bethe same.
Else it might be easier to make up a shaft, have a looka t my 5L page about me fitting the VL turbo diff to my car you will need to do the same for your car. I found a VN 5L rear shaft bolted up to a salisbury front shaft. The VN has different sized unis again bigger than the salisbury slightly. but use the VN flange it will bolt up to a 85 VK or VL diff.

    cheers
    Scott

Both diffs are BW78's, one's a manual carby, the other's an EFI auto - so should the tailshafts be identical, or is the EFI one larger?

Solong as everything's a bolt-on job, I should be able to tackle this in a weekend, hopefully

Yeah sounds like the tailshafts are the same you would just keep your tailshaft in the car, I would get the hand brake parts from holden I would take it as a given they would be chewed up.

    cheers
