hey guys and girls.
am currently questioning upgrading from the 202 to a v8. will have my p's soon and want the v8 but not alour to drive a 308 because of power to weight ratio. anyways i was told that i can still have the power of a 308 in a 253 if i put the 308 pistons and crank in. is this true or a load of sh*t?
cheers
rohan
Erm they wont fit
The 304/308 pistons are way bigger than what a 253 could ever accomodate.
I remeber stroker cranks being available for a 253 up to around 280 odd, but whats the point, if wouldnt comply to the laws it would need to comply to.
Sit out your Ps with the 202 and then get something bigger.
Externally from memory theres no way of telling a 253 block from a 308 block. I have seen cases on 308 blocks stamped with the original engine 253 engine numbers, all they needed was a beyond economical repair 253 block to donate an engine number. But this would be illegal and I wouldnt suggest it.

thanks for the information scott
well back to the drawing board i guess
jus going to have to stick with a warm 253 to cover my p's
yeah well u can get a 253 to embarress a 308! the joy of a 253 is it works well with many standard parts.much better than the 308 does.heads only need a mild clean up and slight port work factory 4 barrel manifold and retuned carby is sweet.a nice cam and u will have a cracker
So some people are complaining about my motto on cops.well if u knew what ive been thru u wouldnt.so quit your whinging!
i hate cops!
what about putting 308 heads on it would that give me any more power. jus after bolt on things atm as i need to keep it pretty stock cos i am planning on driving it on my p's.
the heads would be almost the same as the 308 ones.... like EVL253 said...just get them cleaned up a little so they flow better and youll be laughing
put a 308 in it and just put the 4.2 litre air filter top on it. the first thing u see when u open the hood is 4.2 LITRE. fool any cop. unless u get a canary and it has to go over the pits.

yea thought of that but as its unregistered i have to register it and they would run the engine number through computer and see that it is a 308.
register it and then put the 308 in it. or do u have to get an annual inspection where u live.

True it would fool anyone out there, even me as I wouldn't think twice about it. But what happens if his car gets burnt out and the insurance company finds that it's a 308 block, or if he was in an accident, they won't pay up. You'll find that many insurance comapnies won't insure drivers with 308's under 25 y/o and you can't drive them until you are over 21.
I think he meant without getting under and having a look.
The pistons are completely different sizes. The old 253 can get up and go. Same as any engine, get it to breathe with a mild cam, match the intake and headers to the heads, get the carb sorted and make sure it has an electronic dizzy. This will give you something respectable whilst still keeping you legal.

going by the date since VQ 304 has replied to this thread, he'd probably be off his p's... lol...
No wah to that!
Never late with ROB308...
Most Highway Patrol Officers will look alot deeper that the Air cleaner if they've got the shits with you, or they have instructions to hammer P Platers, It's a bit of a myth that the HWP know sit all about cars, in fact you'll probably find that most of them were hoons in their early days. Also if you have a major accident, your insurance company will have a pretty good look too.
There's nothing wrong with the 253's, If you can find it, get a copy of street machines artical titled; Little League. I think it came out about 10 years ago, also check out COME racings website, they have the specs and dyno sheets of one of there production 253's, none too shabby.
