are the axels from v8 diffs bigger in dia than 6cyl diff

I have always found the single spinner salisbury diffs 6 cyl or v8 to run the same axels, it might be different for an LSD however. I can say the 6cyl or V8 axels both break the same, I have broken quite a few by twisting the splines clean off the axel.
