My poor old wagon has lost 2nd and top gears.
(I've checked the modulator, it's not the problem.)
I do have an older trimatic from an HQ Stato. I have noticed the selector shaft is on the drivers side of the box - how difficult is it to move the selector to the other side as per the VK one, or would it be easier/cheaper to grab a cheapie from a wreckers.
i don't think its possible i wanted to do the same and had a look into it ... maybe with some cutting and welding you may be able to.
probably easier to get your trimatic serviced or get one from the wreckers.
talk to an auto service centre they might know the answer and price straight away!

Well if you were in Vic I'd let you have mine...![]()
Thanx Guys.
( Gee, I wish I lived in Mexico (-; )
I've started to modify the shifter mechanism to reach over the other side without damaging the original.
I haven't pulled the original trans out yet. Are the bellhousings the same? If not is changing them over straight-forward?
bellhousings for all red/blue/black holden 6's are the same as far as bolting to the block is concerned.

I found a little problem...
The HQ trans was a V8, different bellhousings and input shaft. )-:
I'm now looking for a 2nd hander from the local wreckers.
Thanx again, to all, for your help and input.
Will the dramas ever end??!!!
Found a 2nd hand trans with 6 months waranty for $275. (-:
The lugs on the bellhousing were 1cm shorter than my original, spacers made from old gudgeon pins stopped the bolts bottoming out.
I then somehow managed to strip BOTH the mounting points for the driveshaft centre mount, (not bad for a little 4in long ring spanner - I'm gonna have to stop eating my brussel sprouts) I've now had to weld in some studs.
I'm praying that is the end of the unexpected dramas.
