i hva ejust bought a vk calais and the dash doesnt work
i am wondering if ne1 could help me with it
its an electronic dash
cheers
Probably going to need to elaborate a bit more than that dude.... 'not working' doesn't help much. As in, it doesn't turn on at all?
The VK electronic dashes aren't reknowned for their reliability, sadly - I'm fortunate enough to have scored one manufacured in 1996 (!!!) so I'm hoping it'll be a decent quality one (when I get around to fitting it)![]()
first thing i would do is to check that the round harness that plugs in the back has a good electrical connection to the dash as this harness contains the power wires from the ignition to the power supply in the dash.Originally Posted by Owen
if you need to jiggle it and it works but then fails to work after turning ignition off then on again I'd say that the power supply may be knackered... thats what the problem with mine was anyway.
these dudes can help you if you're located in melbourne....

nah all my lights inside work just the dash
it has no lights no nothin on it at all and i havew changed ALL the fuses in the car and no change
VK Electronic dashes SUCK...mine's stuffed too....tells me i'm outta fuel all the time, tells me I'm low on coolant all the time, speedo is WAAAAAAY out...hate the bloody things, they're useless. Anyone know of one that actually works? Brissy area....
And synoptica, how's you manage to score a new one?!
Just lucky! Bought a written-off Calais, and it was in it![]()

i wish i could find a good vk calais (want a 2 tone one)

its a common thing with the dash as i had the same problem to but i got a good one from the wreckers (Heat and old age stuffs them up)

anyone know where u can get the dashes re-done?
Norti, Yeah sorry wasnt very specific, as in getting the Dashes re conditioned so they everything works as it should my clock doesnt work, avg fuel and Avg Speed doesnt work pretty much all the lil read outs on the far LHS of the Digi Dash just wondering if Auto Elecs have a grip on them or their just a nuisance to live with

I found out a few checks you can do yourself.
On the transducer the smaller cylindrical metal part that screws into the module that is screwed to the shock tower. (Note you also screw the speedo cable into the module that you screw to the fire shock tower.)
The transducer has 3 wires, a Pulse wire, a Ground Wire and a Ignition(power) wire.
On the ground wire with the ignition turned off place the black probe of your multimeter(set to test 20 ohms) on the negative battery terminal and the positive to the ground wire, your resistance should be less than 20 ohms or you are not getting a good enough ground.
If not clean up your contacts back to ground.
On the Ignition (power) with the ignition on test the DC volts to make sure you are getting good voltage.
On the Pulse wire have your red probe on this wire and the black to ground and rotate the the end of the transducer fitting(like end of speedo cable square section) slowly the voltage should change from 0 to 5 volts and back again as you rotate the end.
Also you can attach the end of this to an electric drill and rotate it at speed to see if your speedo works for a check.
Hope this helps someone.
Cheers,
Tim
