what would be the best auto to fit a 253 cause i have no clue on transmissions and would like some help in this matter
If the 253 is reasonably stock and your not gonna drop it into drive at 5000rpm, the old Trimatic is a reasonable box.
If your putting out more horses than a warm 308 I'd suggest you have a look at a Turbo 400.
If your gonna run it over the quarter, a powerglide would be the go.
Horses for courses.
Which ever one you put in I strongly suggest you get it serviced at least yearly at a reputable Trans Joint.

Trimatic..
Turbo 350 and 400 from the 308's won't fit as stock..
it would be an aussie pattern thats the trimatic. they are pretty cheap boxes. just dont hurt them too much or they break.

trimatic, good box if built properly with the right internals can handle 450hp... wouldnt even bother with a turbo400 box on a 308...
thx for the help so it seems the trimatic would be the go
does anyone have any ideas where i could get one in vic
most wreckers would have one. theyare pretty common
