We all have to start somewhere, it's great that you're showing an interest in your car. You'll like it here, everyone will take it easy on you.

Any mechanic can top up the fluid for you, but I suggest you save yourself some dollars and increase your car knowledge.

The automatic uses transmission fluid (yes, I know I'm being pedantic!!) but it's totally different to the oil your engine uses. Your automatic is known as the Trimatic (or more commonly the Traumatic!!). The autos don't like being overfilled, so you need to make sure you're reading the level at the correct temperature. Assuming you're reading the dipstick correctly: after a drive with the engine hot, still running and in Park. If the fluid's low it's just a case of pouring new fluid down the dipstick tube to the correct level. I can't remember what fluid the trimatic uses, if no-one else posts here in the meantime I'll check when I get home but you need to use exactly what is specified. Remember to fill it very slowly and check it continually - don't overfill it.

    Mark.

    P.S. Love you username.

hey thx man for the answer,

my username is because im french and im a backpacker squatting in melbourne...lol...i bought this car like 3 weeks ago in sydney for 1200bucks and was running perfectly for the 1200km i did with it...but start to make real strange things with the transmission...
now the R doesnt work (hopfully im park in a parking lot)...
So i checked everything with a friend and we deduced that was the transmission fluid level which was a little bit low...

Go to your local supermarket and pick up a bottle of DEXRON III ATF. It's what you want. Should come in 1L bottles from Woolworths/Safeway...

The Trans fluid is poured down the transmission dipstick hole.
Its just at the back of the engine compartment on the drivers side.
