    Question What is Juzza's new car?

    Hey guys, just swapped my old VH SL/X for a VB L and I've been able to decipher every single code except this one: 1189-63V for the trim. I mean I know it's obvious by looking at the interior it's tan coloured and basic L but I'm curious as to the name and meaning behind the code lol

    Cheers all!

    Right first off, it can't be a VB L model, they came out in the VCs, VB only got Commodore, Commodore SL and Commodore SL/E.
    Second it isn't tan in colour, its buckskin, i think thats the 63 number of the code. V is for velour?cord cloth and 1189 This is the style its trim in, SL style cloth.

    Well this has just thrown my perspective into whack.. maybe I don't have a VB Commodore, maybe I have a VC?

    Here's all the information I could get off that plate, and what I've been able to crack them to but I could be wrong?

    VB8VK69
    VB - VB Commodore
    8 - Holden
    V - V family of cars
    K = Trim Level L (base model)
    69 = Sedan

    Build Plate Specs
    L14: L6, 3.3-litre H/Comp.
    M40: Automatic Transmission - Trimatic
    GU4: Axle Ratio - Rear 3.08:1
    Colour: 568-10981 - Firethorn (568 = Solid)
    Trim: 1189-63V (whatever that means.. tan L anyway)

    Any help/corrections would be appreatiated, I'd love to know what I own here! And thanks for the response SL/ENut! Also attatched some pics, I can't tell by the grill, and the reco blue motor is of interest.. possibly a VC then? Cheers

    Well what i would do is look for the other plate thats like the build plate, with all the ADR codes on it. It should say if its either VB or VC.
    I gotta feeling its a VC, with that reco blue 202, VCs had them, VBs had the classic red 202.

    I just checked dads base model VB, has 8VK69BR, what ever that BR means.

    Juzza, I own a real VC L so I should be able to answer your queries. My plate says VC8VK69 so there's your answer there. My trim looks very similar to yours (buckskin vinyl) but is listed as 1969-63V, maybe the V stands for vinyl? As SL/ENut says I've got another plate on the radiator support listing what ADR's the vehicle complies with, but it also has VC COMMODORE stamped in it as well as the build date (7/81).

    You've definitely got a resprayed VB grille. My best mate had a VC with a VB grille so that's nothing unusual. Just wondering what taillights do you have? Are there black line highlights on them?

    My guess as to the history of your car is that someone in the past has had a reco'd blue motor fitted (in place of the tired red 202) and because that almost brings it up to spec with the VC has tried to change a few other simple items to palm it off as a VC and get a few more dollars. i.e. removed the ADR compliance plate which would clearly show the model, and whacking the "L" badge on.

    Hope this helps.
    Mark.

    Thanks for the replies guys! I'll definately head around to my brothers garage (where the car is being stored) and check out the other plate..

    What struck me as odd is that the plate I got that information off, it was also on the radiator support panel with the ADR one while the VHs I had have it in a different location.. I'm really hoping this isn't a rebirth job, I mean I met the people I got it off and they were honest blokes.. have to investigate some more.. probably just a VB with a blue motor or a VC, is there a way to tell via the grill? The people who sold it to me did so as a VB commodore

    Here's some more photos

    that third pic, the silver plate is the one you need to have a looky at, that will say either VB Commodore or VC Commodore. Oh and thats where they are on VB/VC commies too.
    The grille is a VB job, you have to see how many screws hold it on, cause the VCs ones are a little diff in the location.
    The tailights are VC items, but they do fit VBs.
    Oh and one last thing, that centre thing on the steering wheel came out on VCs too.

    I'll throw my 2 bobs worth in & say it's a VB...Only because I see manual choke cable next to air cond controls..I'm Pretty sure VC's had auto choke..

    Looked at the plate today (the other one), it's definately a VB Commodore but I forgot to look at the plate to see if it had the trim level, since it doesn't have a lot of the coolbits the SL/X had I'm guessing it's not an SL/E and since you guys say the car doesn't have L would it therefore be S, SL and SL/E?

    Cheers for all the replies guys, loving this!

    the code 8VK69 is the base model code, other words the VB you have is just Commodore, not L not SL or SLE, and no VB-VH had S for base either.
