Hey guys,
VK developed a very distinct intermittent clicking noise today... was coming from under the car... it was definitely behind the engine, but sounded like it was forward of the diff - but I was in the car at the time so I can't be 100% sure of where it's coming from.
Given the limited area in which I think it's coming from, can anyone suggest where to look? Sorry for the vague description, but only doing it whilst in motion and being so intermittent makes it very hard to describe!
Cheers,
Chris.
sounds like unis?
or the yoke
my VK started with a intermittent click on acceleration and reverse, that turned into a light clunk, which then sheared off an ear of the yoke, lucky i was in an easy location when it happened
or maybe wheel bearing if its not that, or centre CV joint
id check the yoke and unis first tho
Unis and CV *should* be fine, but I'm quite sure they're under warranty because they were done < 12 months ago. Need to change the rear half of my tailshaft soon anyway - putting an EFI disc rear end on it which has the larger yoke, apparently. So I'll get the tailshaft balanced and the good unis put in etc etc...
Well I found the problem... after it changed from an intermittent noise to a constant, LOUD EMBARASSING noise!
Seems a screw dropped out the CV joint which in turn let one of the plates swing out, and smack my exhaust each time.
Picture should explain (sorry for really bad quality, I just got shakey geek hands)![]()
ahhh that'll do it
M&S driveshafts in Sunshine. Don't go there. ALL the bolts around the CV wern't even finger tight!
One tip when you screw them back in use locktight or use a centre punch on the side of the thread of the bolt where it comes through the tailshaft.
cheers
Scott
