Does any one know what is involved in putting a VP V6 engine into a VK
and also a VN-VP disc brake diff.
any information would be greatly appreciated
What you need is the VN-VP engine K frame to fit a V6 in the VK, need a auto electric to wire up everything. The diff can fit but will be way to long, a VL turbo diff would be better

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
A V6 will bolt into the standard commodore K Frame, you dont need to change K frame unless you want to run if you want to use the VN or later rack. The mounting points are different to mount the rack.
There are possible issues here that are being looked into by engineers with using the the VN or later K frame and rack apparently it may adversly affect the steering geometry.
The wire up isnt very hard anyone with a reasonable electrics knowledge can wire it up, as long as you can read a wiring diagram.
You will need the computer, wiring harness, under bonnet fuse box. You will need to get your tacho recalibrated to suit the V6.
You have 2 options for a radiator, change the inlet & outlets on a normal VK one to suit the V6 or change the radiator tie bar and run the V6 radiator.
If you are using the 4 speed auto you will need to modify your transmission tunnel, if your using a 5 speed you will need a different gearbox mount & cross member.
You will need to modify a tailshaft to suit make sure you get the output shaft for the gearbox.
Diff wise the VN later diffs are too wide, definitely go a 78 series Borgwarner, I suggest a VL V8 3.08 if your running the auto any other ratio you will have speedo accuracy problems without a ratio box. If its a T5 the VL turbo 3.45:1 diff will be sweet.
cheers

these guys can help, and alot of others can find bits for you. Rod hatfield makes K framesthat are able to be bolted straight in and passed.
If you are in adelaide, i have heard that Pheonix mechanical can do it.
I am going to eventually do this to my VK, but with a VS ecotec (I hope anyway) other sites to look at are sites where these conversions have been done:

www.ecotecvb.tk.
Enjoy!
VK SL with VS Ecotec V6 and 5 speed Conversion (Ex 202 and 4 speed)
VB SL/E 253 auto - Written off by blind old bat who can't see stop signs.
VC SK 5L 4 speed manual, VL Turbo Diff - (another) blown aussie - intention is for Chev, 6 speed and ford 9 inch, and donate the VL Turbo diff to the VK.
can anyone tell me where to find a vk to vn v6 wireing loom
You could try CRS (Castlemaine rod shop), they have all the stuff for the conversion
just did a search on google.. and found this.

the vn diffs aren't too wide...mine fits snugg...the only thing is the panhard rod needs to be pulled over about half an inch...the wiring is ok...only issue i have with mine is the dash lights stay on atm all the time lol....ignition switch is faulty...the speedo from the vn can be modified to fit in the vk clusterits all good
3.8 Litre Vc Commodore-OTRCAI, no restriction exhaust system from the headers back, reprogrammed ECU-200 Kilos lighter than the VR that the motor came out of:w00t Thats Gold!
thats nice...
you realise this is a 4 year old conversation... right?
all this has helped me, cheer but iv got a vb sle and chuckign vn v6 and trans in it tomorrow how would i go about moving the batary holder from one side to other side? or would it be easyer to pay auto electrition or do it myself? but then again ill need engineers cert cause its not regoed. or is there an easyer way around it. could someone give advice?
