i need to to know some info on a conversion in a 1985 vk it had a 202 efi in it and i need to know is can i use the origanal k frame if i can use the original one wat engine mounts should i use? or do i have to change it if i have to change it do i have to get a engineers certificate? and would anyone know wat a m40 gearbox is off? im not sure but that wat the compliance plate says on wat type it is ?
The gearbox is a 3 speed tri-matic.
vkberlina has done the same conversion as you (he'll probably be along shortly to answer all your questions). He used the original k-frame and had trouble with clearance for the power-steering. There's a note on his website that if you use a later model k-frame and steering rack there's no such problems. Here's his website about his conversion:

If you want a comprehensive how-to on the EFI V8 conversion, send me a PM. I can't post the link through this site.
Mark.
yer i looked at the site and if im in the right part of it all he says about it is he had to remove the rack while he was putting it in its helpfull though. cheers also if u use the original k frame wat engine mounts are use cuse if im right the injected are different than a carbie. i mean insteadof having just the one bolt going threw the engine mount on the carbie's the injected have 2 bolts that are moulded into the engine mount which bolts to the k frame thatas wat im puzzled about really and exhaust not sure if i can use the standard exhaust manifold or not but im thinkin of puttin pace makers on it
thanks for the info on wat type the gear box is rossco with the 3 speed trimatics dont they have an inspection plate that bolts to the bellhousing? cause the gear box thats in my vk doesnt its just one solid bellhousing with no angle on the bottom of it and from my knowlodge it had a injected 202 in it cause i brought it with no engine aparently it sent a couple of rods or a piston threw the block (wich wat i was told and it would have been it has the wireing for the injectors) are the gearboxes on a carbie fit an injected motor? i really dont need this info im just curious thats all cause this would be my 3rd vk after one got smashed and the other got stolen and they were both carbies and they both had inspection covers on the gearbox.
on that site he also has info on the gear box mount but hes puttin a manual in it do u have to change it if u ur using a auto?
Ok Keep the original K frame and rack use a VN high pressure line and get the rack end changed to a VK nut DONT take it to PIRTEK they stuffed mine up 3 times then destroyed a perfectly good hose of mine and refused to replace it. things get a littke tight around the extractors, bellhousing etc but no different if you use a different model K frame and rack anyway.
As for your exhaust headers definitely go pacemakers and specify exactly what your running, power steer or not power steer, what gearbox etc as each set are different.
Engine mounts I used VN mounts for mine theres an alloy one for the DS and the aircon compressor bolt up to it, and the other wise is a steel one.
You wont be keeping a 6cyl Traumatic as it wont bolt up to the 5L, I would at least go for a 4 speed auto.

thanks vk berlina have u got any pics on how u did the engine mounts? cause im not to sure about it. nah i was keeping the gearbox getting rid of it i just wasnt sure wat a m40 is cause it says it has a m40 on my compliance plate but the bearbox in it doesnt look like a trimatic so im gonna give it a bath and see wat it is. thanks for the info and how did u run the exhaust to the rear im thinking off putting a duel duel system if not to hard or might just go single not sureim just wanna get an idea on wat i need to do before i start
I have heaps of images of the conversion what do you want pics of exactly?? of the mount of them bolted up?
Basically I used VN V8 engine mounts & brackets and it all bolts straight up, its a piece of cake.
For the exhaust check my site I have all the pics of the exhaust you could ever want. are you thinking a pipe out each side? or out the same side? Personally I would go both out the same side as original as, if you have one out each side you risk fuel leaking out of breather lines all over a hot exhaust which I wouldnt want.
in short have a good read of my site it should cover most things
cheers

ive been to ur site (saved to my favorites) alot of info on exhaust and other stuff. did u use the origanal vk k-frame? if so wat im after is a pics of how u did the engine mounts cause from wat i know there a different bolt pattern cause my vk just has these 2 sqaure tubes comin of the k-frame with one hole drilled in them for the engine mount to bolt to and the vn/vp have 2 bolts sticking out the bottom off the engine mounts which go to a flat plate apart of the k-frame? if its possible id like pics of the mounts bolted up if u can see them and by themself
I used the original K Frame. Engine mounts like I have said are easy.
I used the VN brackets that bolt straight to the block, and then bought normal everyday VN 5L engine mounts and bolted them in place everything lines up no holes need to be drilled, nothing needs to be modified.
what your thinking of isnt the K frame side of the engine mount, the engine mount bolts to the engine mount bracket with 2 studs and nuts.
I am not looking forward to the day I need to change them. install them prior to installing the engine
cheers

yer my apoligies u see wat im thinkin that they would have used the same engine mounts as the v6 thats wat i was thinking until i found some vn/vp engine themselves and saw that they are different thanks for the pic now i understand wat there like
