i have had 2 diffrent VK motors in the last 3 months both with the same problem of plenty of oil in sump but not getting to top of motor. I changed the oil pump on weekend still no luck.i am thinking it may be the oil pickup clogged but seems coincidental that 2 motors should have same problem. Any advice prior to ripping off the sump.![]()
Depends on the history of the engine where are you sourcing the engine from?
How many KM are on the engine?
What oil are you using?
What oil filter are you using?
What oil pump are you using?
Is the problem occuring at idle only or higher RPM as well?
cheers

the first had 270000kms and the second has 120000kms (owned by elderly pensioner for 15 years). Using cheap oil. Oil pump as per original. Both idling and high RPM.
ok
First of All I would be using something like Penrite HPR 30 and a genuine holden small type filter, this fixed alot of oil pressure problems I had with a 202.
Next thing with a secondhand engine I would always take the sump off and make sure theres an oil pickup connected and its not blocked, while the sump is off remove a couple of big end bearing caps and check the condition of the bearings & the clearances if they are not right it could cause oil pressure problems.
Next I would be inspecting the top end of the engine maybe pull a side plate off and check out a couple of lifters, make sure the pushrods arent blocked as well as the small oil holes in the rocker arms.
All else fails you could be in need of a new oil pump if you buy one definitely purchase a High Volume pump, I have had great results from the JP ones.
Also I have seen bad results with engine flush additives added to oil, dislodging contaminates then blocking other areas so if you get the urge to clean anything do it off the engine

Thanks for the advice Scott. I will give it a go. It is a work car so hopefully will have on the road ASAP.![]()
hey donna check that the shaft that runs from the oil pump to the front of the cam is not chewed out where the gear drives off the cam, easy way to check is take off oil pump, push a peice of garden hose ect.. over the shaft, be sure to pull it down slightly so the gear drive lines up with the cam, then turn motor over for few secs, if it doesn't spin it needs replacing, it is a pretty common fault that leads to engine seizes all the time, you can buy an after market one for not to much. This would also explain why its the same problem with two engines. if this dont work, maybe get an engine flush, good luck, hope it helps..
