    Default VC instrument cluster questions

Hey guys just wondering if you could tell me how to get the instrument cluster out of a vc. My globes need replacing, my odometer has stopped working and the speedo sticks at a certain speed, so if anyone knows how to fix those as well it would be great! Cheers

It's been 10 years since I've pulled mine apart so I'll test the memory banks. There's a couple of screws up the top of the black surround. Remove those and have some patience trying to remove the black surround. I remember having to distort mine at the top and bottom to lever it out. Next is the clear acrylic cover. Now you should be able to just pull out the silver faceplate (if low-spec model) and you've got access to the blown globes.

For your non-functioning speedo, here's a link to help you fix it yourself, you'll just need to disengage the speedo cable from the rear: http://hometown.aol.com.au/Commodorenut/speedo.htm

Thanks for that mark. However just a quick question with the light globes. Do they just pull out and do you have to do something with the metal flaps on the sides of the globe. I just dont want to break them and make it harder to get them out.

Heres a picture of what im talking about..

I'm pretty sure they're just a twist motion, but I can't remember if they have 2 tangs and need to be pushed in first or if the holder is threaded. But I do remember it being dead-simple, nothing as drastic as anything to do with the metal flaps - that kind of stuffing around would stick in the memory bank.

If anyone else is reading this and can remember feel free to comment.

By the way, they do last a long time, mine are all still working 10 years later.

Thanks for that i found out that the globes just pull out. Does anyone know how to get the white surround that holds the speedo etc out of the dash. i kinda dropped a light globe holder behind it by mistake and cant get to it
. I have undone the three screws around it but i think i need to unconnect the cables behind it? how do i do this?

You can pull the white bit of the dash out a bit, just enough for your hand to pull the connected cables.

ok these globes are now giving me the shits! This has to be the most fiddly little thing ever! i tried to pull the white surround out but could only manage it to come out around a cm from the brackets that hold it on so there is no way i can get my hand under there to get to the cables. Now that i have pulled that white surround out the cable for the manifold vacuum has come off so now this doesnt work!!!!! I think im just going to take it to pay for someone to do it cos this is really annoying me now!

Any simple advice before i pay someone to do it?

sounds like you still have the original cable ties around you main cable meaning you can only get it out a cm now it sounds like you have everything off except that cable of wires the wires lead to a round black plug that goes into the back of the cluster all you gotta do is feel around that plug you should feel a clip bend it back and remove the cable doesnt matter if you snap it coz the plug will fit snug back in when you install it hope this helps
