1981 VC Commodore Auto 3.3L Blue Motor
1# Can coolant be used in this vehicle?
2# best fuel to use? Atm I use unleaded with the lead replacement stuff.
3# Auto choke? The cars accelerator gets stuck with the timing screw getting caught on the idle cam, is there a way to fix this?
4# Car idles at 800/1000rpm mark is this good at all? The idle can jump sometimes but im still to time her...
Cheers
1: Yes corrosion inhibitor coolant should be used with the vehicle, If you really want to make a difference use demineralised water instead of tap water as well.
2: 98 Octane unleaded will suffice for this car, as long as you use a fuel with sufficient octane you done need to use an LR additive. Check the archives I have posted re this in great detail before.
3 & 4 : Sounds like the carbie isnt tuned 100% correctly I would first of all set the timing, then adjust the carb correctly. Idle speed seems just a fraction high but still ok.
cheers

Thanks guys, i dont think the clock even turns anymore, well without plates atm i cant drive very far... But i still dont think it does, would this mean something?
Oh yeah i tuned the car today and there's a strange noise from the engine. " it's like someone taping on a window"
Check for leaking exhaust gaskets, also flange gasket under car. Could be noisy lifters in the motor causing the rockers to rattle. First check for leaking exhaust. Maybe check the manifold/header gasket.Originally Posted by Goon
