Hey all.... got a Q about the speedo on Calais Dash... My BIL took me to test drive VKC for my sister... (since I own one, thought I could help) & When I drove it, I noticed that speedo read 103 as I pulled out the driveway
lol NO! Im not that much of a lead foot! then it just sort of jumped around... now the bar seemed to be a lil better but still I dont think was acurate either
Now as this will be my sisters first car I told him not to even bother with it cus she wouldnt have a clue how fast she was goin at all, being without any experiance.
But seems he got offered a good price & is wanting to take it. Now what is at fault here? Dash or sender?? Any ideas?
My dash (VKC) seems to be fairly accurate & so far havent had a speeding fine so either Im very lucky, or its fineBut I know people say they are pretty unaccurate, Digital dashes in VKC's.
Also... running power steering dry.. what is likely to be the damage? Will pump be stuffed?

Mine does the same thing with the speedo reading. I WAS unlucky enough to get booked for doing 29 K over the limit, when I was only doing about 10 k over ( still speeding, i know, but NOT nearly 30K over), and have had my licence suspened for 3 months. But my dash also tells me i'm low on coolant. EVERYDAY. It's done this since i got it Sept last year. It also tells me i'm running out of fuel all the time....so i don't know what's going on. Did get another dash to replace it, but that was stuffed, didn't even light up. I have no idea whether it's the dash or otherwise...so hopefully someone ELSE replies to this post that knows what they're talking about! By the way, my b/f had a power steering leak which basically turned everything near it to jelly...so get that checked out asap..even though you said it's running dry...I hate power steering ...well, like it, but after seeing what it did to my b/f's old car, I dont like it....
If your speedo is a bit jumpy, the likely problem is at the transmission. The speedo gear on the end of the cable might be slipping causing strange readings. I'd check that out and maybe jam a toothpick in between the gear and the cable to jam it tight. It's only one screw to take the cable out.
Or it could be a faulty transducer, the cylinder device screwed into the cruise control unit on the lower right hand side of the motor.
I haven't had much of a problem with my dash. It seems to work not bad. I had the collant alarm come on all the time a while back but that was because I was slowly leaking coolant from the radiator cap. I just replaced the cap. Is yours leaking? There is also a coolant sensor on the radiator I think that triggers the low coolant if it drops below a certain level.
The low fuel alarm is probably caused by a faulty or partly faulty fuel tank sender. It would probably be ok if it was replaced.
The power steering would probably just not work if there was no fluid in the lines. I don't think it does any damage if it runs a bit dry. You just have to use your muscles a bit
See ya.
cheers for that... It was empty, I was just making sure this wouldnt cause any problems. Stupid caryards... damn trade-ins lol
Turns out they bought a TP Magna insteadas I used to own a TM Magna Elite... I know how much it costs in front end bits & pieces
I think they would have been waaay better off with the VKC.... After all he is an electrian so would have been fine
ppfffttt what do they know? Damn rolla owners....
