    Default over heating 308

my 308 over heating after only a short time on idle. all 8 spark plugs have oily threads when i changed them so there might be a leak. i know it's not the thermostat or radiator. any ideas on the problem, i'd love to hear them!!!

cheers sk00bs(overheating on a cold day is gay)

    check the exhaust........
Could be somethin blocking it, mine did this for a bit but i found that the valve near the flange wasn't opening properly thus causing overheating

how long is a short time 5-10mins idle?, my mate had a VC SLE 308 and at the KFC driveway a few years back his car was ideling for about 6mins and the temputer gauge was going up and up, the best thing to do is not to idle the car for too long as they don't like being on idle. I would suggest if your car always over heats get it checked out by a mechanic there might be a simple soultion to your problem.

it was only after 5 minutes or less... took it for a 15 minute drive today and it got close to overheating but its didnt and it even started to cool down at the lights.
ill only pay a mechanic if its life or death....ill fix the old girl myself thanks

How do you know it isn't the colling system or the thermostat?

If it was me, I'd take the thermostat out completely, install a new gasket, flush out the cooling system completely and refill with coolant. Then it should be ok. Unless your thermo guage on your dash is cactus.

If i were you i would spent a whole weekend working on the car doing a complete service and checking everything.

i should have mentioned that, i changed the thermostat and gascket and flushed the radiator and put new coolent in.also changing the pipes from the radiator incase they were blocked. also did the oil fuel and air filters. sparks too.
i am looking at upgrading the radiator in the next week anyway.
so i guess ill wait and see what happens.

    again cheers

Might be a blown headgasket. that could be steam comming out your exhaust Check if there is any bubbles in your radiator, or if there is any water in your cylinders by pressure testing your cooling system and pulling out spark plugs check for any water entry by cranking it while pressurised
