Hi guys, daughter has had a VC SL 202 auto for just over 10 years it was her first car, it was an old guys car who worked for GMH he took it as part of his package when he retired, daughter is the second owner, it is in pretty good order, power steering, air and overall in pretty good order, very minimal rust.
Has been maintained well, brakes are spot on, new cylinders pads rotors etc, has had a new power steering rack, and all the rear suspension has been rebushed and new springs etc, new battery, radiator and lots of other bits, when I say new the parts mentioned have been replaced during the last couple of years, well she bought a brand new Mazda 3 and the dealer really wasn't interested in a trade-in and was probably $500-$1000 or less even if we had of insisted, so not sure whether to chuck a few dollars at it and keep it as a family back-up car, we really don't need one as all the kids have cars, but probably would come in handy on the odd occassion but whether it would be a waste of money what with rego/insurance and the fact they are worth stuff all anyway, but it seems a shame to junk or sell it for peanuts as it is quite a clean vehicle. Just after a few opinions as to whether to hang onto it
probably will never be worth a lot or get rid of it.
Turn it into a show car!

yep cover it over and keep it mate ya never kno when u might need itor find som1 in the family 2 give it 2 or somthing!
Done let her rust away..... But i'd keep the beauty thats for sure!
go the VC!
If you want it for sentimental reasons then keep it, otherwise get what you can for it. $450 for reg + more for insurance + maintenance etc etc etc, it costs you probably $1000 pa just to have the thing sitting there. Take $1000 trade in now and at the end of 12 months you will be $2000 better off.

Deja vu!! I'm in exactly the same situation as you with my VC. It was my first car and I'm emotionally attached to it, and could never part with it. Besides that I'd be lucky to get $500 for it, even though mechanically it's in great condition. It's at that point that every car eventually gets to where the sum of the parts is great than the value of the complete car. My wife and I each have another car and I'm well enough off that I can afford to keep the VC as a backup car. I do all the servicing and repairs myself but rego and insurance alone come to $850 per year. Parts are plentiful and cheap and there's not much that can go wrong with them. My VC has served as a backup car for 6 years, and when something does go wrong with either of my other cars I'm extremely glad I've still got it. I travel a long way to work with no public transport near me so a backup car is a must-have. Mine will eventually become a project car, but for the moment it's performing its role coming off the bench very well.
I guess you've got to weigh up whether you need the cash (or even to save the rego/insurance cash each year), or whether the convenience of having a cheap backup car is more important to you.
