Hi all, Does anyone know what the lowest differential ratio for a 6 cylinder commodore is ? I currently have a 3.08 diff ratio and I know they do a 3.36, but i have fitted a turbo 700 trans to my VH SLE and it is plenty tall now (110km/h = 1530 rpm with torque convertor locked) so I would like somthing around the 3.50's. Thanks![]()
some VKs had 3.55 ratio. Hard to get hold of though. You could get a VL 3.45b/W ratio diff.

A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
my vk has factory 3.25 ratio was factory efi 202
You could get a 2.78:1 final drive ratio.Originally Posted by malemailmaleman
I didn't think they had lock up torque convertors back in 1983?? I had a VB 202 with 3.08:1 diff and it would sit on 2600 rpm at 100km/h.Originally Posted by malemailmaleman

the vl 3.45 gears would be the best way to go,
and probably the cheapest
You're right. I didn't notice that bit.Originally Posted by malemailmaleman
I'd have thought it would take a lot more than a 202 to drive a TH700 properly...
hey there, i got a salisbury 3.55 in my VB 179, 4 sp, so im sure you can still get these, but yeah if you need one soon i would get a vl diff easy to get
The T700 Sits SWEET behind a worked 202 ...... actually is was unreal behind the stock 202. The traumatic did 3200 Rpm @ 115 km/h and now it's awsome.Originally Posted by clixanup
Check My previous posts for the info on the changefrom traumatic to t700.
It Now does the 1/4 mile in 13.06 seconds...... not bad for a six shooter.
It has heaps of legs at the top and with the 3.08 ratio at the moment wheel spin is not a problem so i think i'll give her some more acceleration and see what happens to the 1/4 mile time.
Hi mate, to answer your question the lowest ratio diff available for the early commodores (salisbury) was in fact a 3.9:1 but was fited to the 4 cyl starfire shitboxes, and I think have a different stud pattern also so it will be useless to you (not sure about the strength either, but you can only wonder when it was fitted behind the mighty starfire!)
The 3.55 ratio was available for the small and large salisbury but are quite rare as they were an option only.
As mentioned, I'd go for a vl 6cylinder borgwarner diff as they were 3.45 ratio standard but I think you'll need to do some slight tailsheft mods for this to fit to your existing gearbox/tailshaft combo (not too sure what excactly im too friggn tired lol).
HTH
VL borgewarner diff is a good option plus lsd are easily found even the 25 spline type.
The four cyl starfire diff will work, all you do is changeover the brakes and axles, as it's the same useless diff that the 6's had
mate 4:11 for drag 3:08 in walkie, 2:78 was standed in most base models
what r u doing with the car
