My daughter just bought a vh off a mate of mine, the body is in ok condition except the spare wheel arch has rusted
the problem is that the motor runs just, but the compressions are from 1 to 6
120,90,100,60,50,120
there is oil getting up to the air filter via the hose from the rocker cover, it was off and the motor just blew oil over the bonnet
to my mind this is either stuffed valves or possible rings
Id like to know what the compressions should be for this motor as im not sure what they should be
the car has been run on gas for the best part of 10 years, but has been idle for the last 2
Is it easier to get another motor rather than fixing this one up
does anyone know whats the legal limit for exhausts on this model
It has a 2.25 inch system, might be too loud ,as it has to pass a rwc
thanks
Sounds like a possible blown head gasket my 202 used to blow out between #4 & #5 but witht he oil spray it sounds like stuffed rings.
Personally I would rebuild a 202 for the car they are cheap to build up and you will know whats gone into it. I wouldnt bother with a GEM etc reco engine.
Exhaust might just need anextra muffler or hotdog on it.
cheers
Scott
Loads of VB-VK information, All you need to know about EFI 5L Conversions Ultimate EFI 5L Conversion resource "
Wanted B Cast Heads PM for details
thanks for that, what would a rebuilt 202 be worth, any idea what the fitting costs would be too
how much air pressure should come out of the ventilation hose at the front of the rocker cover, generally i thought there wasnt much at all
you'll rebuild the motor for around 800 if u can find someone to do the labour fairly cheap or chances are you'll pick up one thats already been rebuilt for around the same price if u hunt around. iv seen a few on ebay lately maby if u can find one in ur area ?
as for the blow-by out the hose its rings or valve stems judging by your compressions im thinking rings and yeh your right there should be bugger all out of it .. u know u have probs if u undo the oil cap whilst its running and u spit oil everywhere![]()
ive seen a few second hand that were suppose to be reco motors for around 200 250, does that sound right, they say around 40 000 to 80000 k's
will a red motor bolt straight in, other than the anti polution stuff, will i need to make sure that all anti polution gear works if i put in a red motor?
whats a good secondhand motor worth
how difficult is it to change a 4 speed manual to a trimatic, any other changes needed ie tailshaft diff?
one more question , is the tailshaft different lengths for a 4 speed man to a 5 speed man
thanks

In my town we have a Nice Reconditioned Blue Motor 202 for only $800, so you can get them fairly cheap!
keep the blue motor
yes the tail shafts are different
to go from manual to auto u need to remove the flywheel and clutch install a stall converter change the starter motor and also the radiator u need to plumb in the auto vac line and yeh wires so on so on easier to stick with what u have as the pedal box needs changing too umm yeh thats the mains i think
as for the pricing like stated above me here 800 or so i wouldnt pay less then 600 for a reco motor and no more then 900
if u keep with a blue manual motor u can chuck it in ur self there very basic if u got a shed or a big tree throw a block and tackle on it and its a days job to do ya self
