The only hard part is lining up the input shaft perfectly. The rest is pretty easy a mate and I did one on my old torana.

Did you use car ramps? I have done one before using ramps. It's not the best especially having a gearbox sitting on your chest. :my: But it worked. They weight a ton.
I find that access to a pit is a lot easier

Hi Zoist I am using ramps, sheesh gearbox on my chest , don't think so, not for me, using a trolly jack with a piece of wood, seems to be working ok. Son is working with me, too much for one to do on their own, for me anyway, having never done anything like this b4.
UC weapon, lining up is a bugga I agree, mind you, sounds good when it all slides into place, just hoping everything will work when finished.
    Thanks ppl

It's funny, when I did one years ago with a mate we had both never done one and we found at the end after putting it together we had numerous bolts and washers left over. Don't make that mistake I did. I wasn't very organised at the time but we were both proud of ourselves afterwards! Mind you, the box never fell out so that's something!

Sounds like you are lucky everything stayed in Zoist, I just want the bugga of a thing to go in, frustrated part at the mo, flywheel and bellhousing are in line and nearly butted in, just can't seem to get it that last cm or so.
Have been keeping nuts and bolts together, hoping they all go back in, if not, will make sure son is not watching and throw enything left over in the bin

No way. Don't ever do that. I did that because I was an idiot and impatient. I just wanted the damn thing I worked on to be on the road.

I wish I could help more. I am not really sure what else to suggest, but I have attached a few pics from the Commodore VB series service manual which shows the transmission as it is still used by most part for the later VH and VK cars because the base of the car didn't change a great deal. I would also adjust the band and change the trans gaskets with a $12 kit from Autobarn.

Here is a few more scans that might help you. These are out of the VK service manual.

Hey Zoist, thanks mate, big thumbs up for help, she is in, rang our family mechanic, can't post his business name I don't think, anyway he is Enviro-mechanically good, he gave some advice, came over today, said all is good, was the TCC that was stopping me, thanks for the advice too hey.
Anyway got it all in, and the b***** starter motor holes in the 2nd hand tranny was threaded, took some going but finally it went in, Just VH also advised on fluid, all in all she is done, driveable, Son is ecstatic he has his car back, me too, now we have our car to ourselves again :-), my 4x4 is back on the road today as well, very happy about that.
Thanks for all the help diagrams etc, meant we could do it without paying a Transmission guy $$$$$$.
    Cheers

Cool man :-) Did you use Dexron III fluid? Don't tell me you put in anything like Ford ATF? Did you use the kit I recommended and adjust the band? I found my trans run better when I did.

Hi Zoist, yep did take your advice, put in Dexron, put Ford stuff in a Holden?
Blasphemy lol. As they say, If you can't afford a Dodge, dodge a Ford. Didn't use a kit, went is as is, Son can't afford it.
    Cheers
