Hey all
Has anybody installed a thermo into a VC before or another model ?
What would be the steps?
2 fans or 1?
Electric by swtich is what i want.. "dont want to effect the auto choke"
& would these fit between the original fan and the rad?
cheers
i reckon a 16" davies Craig;d b fine, than just get rid of the manual fan altogether...
Take your stocko shroud off 2. that'll neaten it up underbonnet
u could also go VT twins with shroud reasonably cheap(ish)
Run your themostat switchin the bottom hose n run and extra positive thru a switch 2 the pos on the thermo. that way overriding the thermstat switch, hth...
I used to run a 18" davies craig with a 4 core radiator when I had my hot 202 I had terrible trouble keeping it cool in traffic and on hot days.
I would check out fitting a set of series 1 VT V8 twin thermos on the car instead.
cheers
Scott

I've always considered the Davies Craig fan as an auxillary fan and not a fan suitable to be the main fan. I would go to the wreckers and get the fans off a late model Commodore.
What late model commodore fans would fit a VC?
like I said go for a pair of a Series 1 VT V8![]()

Could you have this setup for thermos in any car?
Diagram: Motor Fan -----> | Radiator | <----- Twin Thermos’s
Keep in mind the thermos will be controlled by an on an off switch.
Sorry for a silly Question. :P
not really much point having a mechanical motor fan and electrics in the front. The idea is to reduce the rotating mass off the water pump allowing the engine to pick up RPM much quicker.
Also I found when I had my hot 202 @ 6500RPM the 7 blade mechanical fan would destroy the water pump bearings thats why I went to an electric fan.
What the idea to do is to remove the mechanical fan and install the Series 1 VT V8 fans on your radiator. If you really want a bit more in the wat of fans a 14" davies craig on the front on your aircon core may help a bit more as well.
cheers

getting rid of them mechanical fans off th eold commodores makes them a whole lot quieter as well and more pleasant to drive, it gets rid of the hair dryer sound of the rushing air every time you accelerate.
Hmm Thanks , ijust had the idea of her running cooler.. Though i know the right answer but i'm just looking for other ways around it, would it be possible to use differerent twin thermos or what are the inch's on the VT twins?
Well i've brought a new 16 inch thermo fan and i'm going to give it a go, still waiting for it to arrive...
I'll post some pics soon![]()
Well heres my first thermo fan in today after removing the radiator "Gave it a good flush" and pulled the other other one back abit to place the backup thermo fan in. It still isn't mounted in and connected.
I'm Still wating on my 16inch thermo fan to replace my manual, but i hope the final result will be good and mixing the thermo setup with extractors should be even better![]()

Oh bollocks!
Well ive just gave my new thermo job an inspection, only to find out the the radiator is leaking, after taking it out and giving it a good clean.. I suspect i may have washed away the prevouis stop leak stuff.. It's not like its pooring out water like a hole or somethng, its just the front bottom end of my engine bay is wet atm![]()
I don't know if there was any stop leak in it before, there could of been..
The radiator was only out of the car for about 2hrs max..
its time to bite the bullet and take it in to get the tanks off and have it cleaned properly this could well be the root of your cooling problem if the core isnt to bad repair it if not possibly recored or the wreckers but keep in mind one from the wreckers could be suspect also
Well i had another look this arvo and it seems the floor isnt wet anymore and there's still plenty of water in the radiator.
I'll fire her up later on tonight and see what happens![]()
Well i found out so far it seems to be just the ring tightin thing "forgot its name atm" was lose around the hose... I'll check in the morning to see if the engine bay is still wet.
Though i did do a test with the manual fan at the sametime as the thermo and i'd have to say the engine gets a bit more quite, just slightly & sounds like the manual fan doesnt have to turn as hard either![]()
it is called a hose clamp
Thanks mate
All is well now.. hopefully i should get the 16inch in this week.
im here to help with those big questions (lol)
thermo fan, what 1 should i get 4 my vk, how hard are they to install, wot needs 2 be changed, and wot do they cost?
0 -250 dollars, the more u pay the more u get. in my case i almost payed 146 for my 16inch but i lost he bet .. but go 2nd chance for 60 dollars!!
with the fan i got the shroud, mounts and screws plus thermostat and switch.
Mines almost getting there once again, but allot closer then before for install.
** the one in the pic above is not my 16inch, that a 14inch 2nd hand thermo. **
ok cool, would i be better off getting the twin series 1 vt v8 fan?
