    Default Oil Cooling?

    Hi

I'd like to know if there is any addons for oil cooling out there that can be used on a VC ? I've seen oil cooler radiator type things in ebay but i don't know any real knowledge about them.

Also do an oil pressure gauge have to be electric to be used in a automatic?

There are 3rd party oil coolers available which use an adaptor housing between the filter and oil pump to tap into the oil line. It either taps the oil before it goes into the filter and returns it to the filter inlet or taps into the filter outlet and returns it to the main oil supply (the latter is better as ohot oil flows through a filter better). You would then need to plumb the oil cooler in. I have used a secondhand oil cooler from a Mazda RX2 in the past but oil coolers sold for MGB's and the like will do just fine. Your problem is getting a suitable adaptor ( I made the ones I used when I was working in a product engineering shop).
Your second question re oil pressure gauge. It doesnt matter if you use electric or a mechanical gauge.

They are transmission coolers. They come in various sizes. There is usually two connections on them. One inlet and the other an outlet AFAIK. You take out the existing pipes out of your radiator and plug them into the new one you have. You could probably route the piping through both radiators for extra cooling.
I was going to put one on my V8, but decided not to. They are generally only beneficial for cars that tow heavy loads and for hot street cars and racing cars, as the transmission gets pushed hard which in turn makes it hotter.
Autobarn sell them. They are around 100 bucks and I think they are even made in the USA. For most people they are basically just another gadget.

Didn't look at the date. I thought I'd contribute more to the post. I think you need to look at more important things for your barge like the underside bushings instead of looking at extra unecessary crap like this to add.

when running an external trans cooler, bypass the radiator as the hot water in the radiator does nothing to cool trans fluid. dont bother trying to cool engine oil unless for a race application, i wasnt sure which you were refering to Goon. I have a DRIVE-TECH trans cooler on my trick trimatic behind 308, does the job nicely mounted in front of the radiator.

run a T-piece out of the oil pump so you can run both the oil pressure gauge and the factory warning light sender.

about $80 from TradeMatics in Moolap (Geelong) is what i paid for mine, beware of autobahn and auto stores i general for prices on these, they vary quite a lot, ive seen em for double the price in autobahn, try a place that services auto transmissions as theyre generally cheaper.

definitely bypass the radiator if runnin the external cooler. make sure you use proper high pressure trans fluid hose as the fluid is under some pressure, dont cut the flared ends off the original metal trans lines, leave the ferrule nuts on, the flared ends help stop the hoses from blowing off, they'll be hard to get on so dip the end of each hose in some boiling water and they'll slip on nice and easily.

make note of which one is the lower trans line as you want the trans fluid to be pushed up hill so the transcooler is full and has no air pockets.

Suss out ebay for trans coolers. I was looking at one the other day which is fairly massive, for $35 including postage. He had a heap on there, and apparently he's gonna be putting more up 2night.
