My son has recently purchased my grandfathers VH Commodore stationwagon, which he has owned since new. In the process of getting it registered, the vehicle inspector could not locate the Chassis (Veh Serial Number). Neither can I. The owners handbook states that it should be stamped on the upper front panel, right hand side. Does anyone have any suggestions?
First let me say welcome to Just Commodores mate!
Where you said is usually where the VIN is located, in some cars (VB I know) it's just at the front near where the headlights screw in, but I'll bet you've already looked there.. Problem is sometimes they get painted over and can be hard to locate.
I've attatched a picture of mine just because it might be helpful, the top circle is where this plate was located on my old blue VH but it's not necessarily where it is for yours.. also the lower arrow is where it is on my VB
If you've got anymore questions/need some more help post up a pic

Juzza, thanks for the welcome and the swift reply. I was after the Stamped chassis number however, not the plate. Any other suggestions?
should be in the Rad support panel in front of the rad
Thanks FatBoy. Still can't find it though. (I take it rad=radiator). I have attached a pic of the front end. Would it be possible to indicate where you think it should be?http://forums.justcommodores.com.au/...1&d=1143527030

Look on the left hand strut tower or the left hand side inner guard. Some VHs have the number stamped there for some silly reason.
Have a look at your compliance plate(same size as build plate). On the VH it could have AVH or BVH with some numbers. Right that number down on a bit of paper then look around the VH engine bay for those numbers. Thats your chassis number, should be stamped.![]()

Cheers Damien"SL/ENUT" Smith, The SL/E Fanatic!
A lucky owner of 2 SL/E Commodores, a rare VB SL/E and a 2 tone VC SL/E. Just need a VH SL/E and have the set!
Yes, it starts with BVH, but I still cannot find the stamped number. Anyone for anymore?![]()

I'd give the negine bay a good inspection and take your time while doing it, you may have passed it before...
Check the above area engine bay, also under the car
Near the Rad & the lights
Under the car need the trans..
Basicly a good inspection fo the whole front car...
Has the car been involved in an accident?
Because the serial number is stamped on the radiator support panel next to the bonnet support stand infront of the radiator. Both of my vh's had the serial number there. But when I got one repaired from an accident, the radiator support panel was replaced, therfore It no longer had the serial number.
I had the exact same problem, but my car was in a front end accident the entire front part of the car was rebuilt. So by by Vin number...
